The protest was planned- but I don't think the fighting the police and killing people thing was planned at all. Maybe by the proud boys and such, but not by the average attendee. Mob mentality got the best of them eventually, but they didn't know what to do once they broke in. Way easier for them to tell "hang Mike pence" than actually have any intention of doing so is what I'm saying.

A lot of peaceful people went to that protest because trump told them to. They won't show up for him like that in a protest against his arrest.

The vast majority of right wingers really do great and respect law and order. Protesting Congress was easier for them.

Many of them knew what to do after they stormed and smashed in, there's plenty of video showing them actively looking for the offices of certain elected officials and the officials themselves, they failed in part because the police stopped them. Their presence alone in a mob was part of the intimidation tactic they thought would force Congress to ignore law and do what they wanted instead.

Do agree that some that were at the capitol wouldn't do this again, but not because they think it's wrong, but because they're seeing their compatriots getting sentenced.

Disagree on that sentiment, most [current] Republicans do not respect our laws, as about 70% still think the election was stolen from Trump, when it wasn't, it's also one of the most, if not the most scrutinized election we've had: Most Republicans still falsely believe Trump’s stolen election claims

Maybe Republicans of the pre-2016 mindset, but those are in the vast minority now.

They erected a gallows, had nooses, as well as signs. There is nothing spontaneous about it.

"Fear and respect" that was supposed to say, and yes, they do.

Stoic is the "new" low energy troll.

Biden wants to fund law enforcement more, for better training. The Rightist are the ones calling to defund. What a time to be alive.

Has politics always been this ****ed, or is it a new problem, I guess?

No, they do not. They shit on law enforcement, the military, Democrats, and the majority of Americans. They consider themselves patriotic, but they actually hate everything about America.

I disagree with that.

"i disagree" is kinda pointless without a retort. but i suppose it's difficult to find one when so many republicans don't seem to mind that trump is continuing to incite more mistrust, hatred, and possible further violence toward law enforcement.

He and I have already posted two or three times. What's the point of going back and forth on the same point. We obviously disagree. *Shrug* we both don't like conservatives, but don't agree on this point. No need to waste any more time on it, imo.

apart fron baseless rhetoric about "most republicans", i don't see much of a retort besides trying to rewrite jan 6 as a big accident that was supposed to be a friendly patriotic not-coup

And that right there is the issue everyone has with them. They went on a rally to defy the election results because Trump told them to.

I don't disagree with that. At the time of January 6th, he had them ready to do something they would regret. My point is he had that hold over them at that time, and yeah, it led to a violent insurrection. He doesn't have that kind of hold over the majority anymore. He was the president at the time. Half of them honestly thought the law was on their side...

My whole point is there won't be riots of that size over trump being arrested. Now he's a popular celebrity. The alt-right groups might do something, but the vast majority of heartland conservatives aren't packing up and heading to Washington again over it. They'll talk a lot, but they truly aren't people of action.

The spot is to replace a Republican (who died) that had been in that seat for 49 years, the longest serving Republican in congressional history. It's such a slap in the face to Trump, Trumpers and Trumpism. I love it.

it's nice to see a president again who speaks in coherent english sentences
