The protest was planned- but I don't think the fighting the police and killing people thing was planned at all. Maybe by the proud boys and such, but not by the average attendee. Mob mentality got the best of them eventually, but they didn't know what to do once they broke in. Way easier for them to tell "hang Mike pence" than actually have any intention of doing so is what I'm saying.A lot of peaceful people went to that protest because trump told them to. They won't show up for him like that in a protest against his arrest.
The vast majority of right wingers really do great and respect law and order. Protesting Congress was easier for them.
Many of them knew what to do after they stormed and smashed in, there's plenty of video showing them actively looking for the offices of certain elected officials and the officials themselves, they failed in part because the police stopped them. Their presence alone in a mob was part of the intimidation tactic they thought would force Congress to ignore law and do what they wanted instead.
Do agree that some that were at the capitol wouldn't do this again, but not because they think it's wrong, but because they're seeing their compatriots getting sentenced.
Disagree on that sentiment, most [current] Republicans do not respect our laws, as about 70% still think the election was stolen from Trump, when it wasn't, it's also one of the most, if not the most scrutinized election we've had: Most Republicans still falsely believe Trump’s stolen election claims
Maybe Republicans of the pre-2016 mindset, but those are in the vast minority now.
