There's definitely a myriad of reasons people start that career, and some don't have the healthiest of reasons for it. I just think we're quick to assume it always comes from a negative place. Those on the right, especially fundamentalists, often assume immorality or depravity. Those on the left, especially sex negative feminists, often assume victimization.
