Africans deserve to have their own land and be happy and secure there, and then emigrate if they want, not just for safety. The fact that you think that depopulating Africa is a good idea is insane.I hate this image of Africa as this helpless, ravaged continent. Much of Africa is on the mend after a horrific era of colonial abuse, and I think that's awesome — and a lot of these countries are way more than just 'on the mend', they're starting to thrive. I hope for the day when European people want to move to Africa for opportunities, and I don't see it being that far off, we've already seen it for many other parts of the world.
As for this incident, it's greatly disheartening. From what I can tell it just sounds like a random outbreak of violence ('random' as in relatively random, i.e. non-ideological or religious or w/e). I hope the survivors are able to move past it, and that they find happiness and stability in this country.
You hope for the day Europeans move to Africa for opportunities? You mean "opportunities" like being killed, having their land wrongly taken away from them with no compensation, and just overall experiencing widespread racial discrimination like what's going on in South Africa for white people and has been for years? Yet it is all basically ignored by our media?
Thanks, but no thanks. Suppose it's not nearly as bad in other African countries but I'd never personally take the chance. I have all the opportunities I need right here in America.

I think you are misunderstanding what Scribble meant. He's saying it would be nice if Africa was a place that had similar opportunities and similar safety to Europe and the United States.

And it is improving, especially in recent times.
Yes, as Whirly says (and has seen), there is a hell of a lot of work ahead and there are still many atrocities, but that's not to say that it will always be like that. Plenty of other parts of the world have improved substantially and become vastly safer in recent decades.

Again though, I agree and these kinds of histories are hard to overcome, I just have hope that it is possible. Colonialism set Africa back, and then capitalist / corporatist colonialism has hit it pretty hard too; but if the wealth divide and poverty levels are already dropping, it is possible.
I think there are things that the west could do to help, too. That's its own topic tho, I guess
Originally posted by Scribblethere is full on slavery, then there is wage slavery, mostly the latter. I've seen full on and wage slavery in other places too. Both the middle east and India particularly. I saw girls in cages being sold in India twenty five years ago. Young and pretty, not out of my price range either. Sickening, clean a couple of them up and they would have looked like Bollywood actresses... people are not nice generally.

"Might makes right" is basically the law of Darwinian evolution anyway. Not that I believe in that Darwin nonsense of course.
That has nothing to do with Darwinian. This was happening even before the Bible was a thing, or Darwin was a thing.
Every great Empires followed that rule. If you were weak, the strong would conquer you and make you their slaves, or wipe you out. It was pretty straight forward.
Empires aren’t borne through hands holding and singing cumbaya, it’s borne through blood, sweats, and the destruction of the weak by the strong.
