I wish this were true, but I'm guessing a good portion of people between the ages of 20-30 believed this story when hearing about it.

Especially given the way academia has changed here in the last decade(the brainwashing). If students can be such snowflakes they demand UCLA fire a professor for refusing to be racist and give black students special privileges...something tells me they aren't employing any critical thinking skills when they see the media push out propaganda. In fact I'd wonder if they are even capable of recognizing propaganda without a professor telling them something is propaganda.

Hmm, you're right, sadly. I think there is a sea-change coming, but I'm worried that when it does, the Marxist brainwashing of the universities will have done too much damage.

I still have faith in Gen Z, they're a crazy bunch and seeing how they'll mature in this world of misinformation will be fascinating.

I said "for the most part" — some Gen X'ers are still under its sway. I find it weird that the second most disaffected generation put so much faith in the media that alienated and disenfranchised them.
I put more faith in the media than some ****wit with a beanie in his bedroom, sure.

Disagree

Disagree Facebook is where most people get news and the Trumpers are good at manipulating Algorithms which is why for them Far Right is the new normal.

Care to provide me the information that says Facebook is where most ppl get their news from?

I don't see why you'd put much faith in either. Misinformation is everywhere, but the MSM is a legitimate large-scale psyop, and it always has been.

Of course you do, which is why I don't look to blame you for many of your wrong assertions. I understand where you get your information from 😉

I'll keep the msm's cordon sanitaire thanks.

https://www.technologyreview.com/2020/01/29/276000/a-study-of-youtube-comments-shows-how-its-turning-people-onto-the-alt-right/

I already read it and two paragraphs come to the front:

According to a newly published Pew Research Center report 55% of U.S. adults now get their news from social media either "often" or "sometimes" – an 8% increase from last year. About three-in-ten (28%) said they get their news "often," up from 20% in 2018.

and

Pew's study also found of those who rely on social media for their news, industry giant Facebook is now where about half (52%) of American adults get the news, while YouTube came in second at 28%, followed by Twitter at 17% and Instagram at 14%. LinkedIn, Reddit and Snapchat had smaller but still notable audiences at a respective 8%, 8% and 6%.

I've already had a lengthy discussion in the past using that specific pew information so essentially what to take away from with what you stated:

55% of adults get their news from social media and of that 55% , 52% get their news from FB.

So your assertion that most ppl are getting their news from FB is a false narrative and more importantly your statement also belies the fact Democrats game the algorithms just as much for their mssging.

Once again false narratives set in place to keep that silo protected🙂

52% is more than 48% that's old data too. You can only assume it has gone up. Now, the most interesting thing about your stops is this.

Interestingly being a red pilled "interneter" just means you are open to false information like Nazi's are leftists etc.

It also means that opinions most reasonable people don't seriously discuss because they are despicable become the norm. Trump has broken down the cordon of decency still further.

Most of the people who share news on Facebook that I see are all sharing stories from the Guardian.

I guess Whirly's right, getting your news from social media is a really bad idea.

It was youtube that I suspect changed your views from being liberal, I'm guessing you were more liberal and probably not long ago.

No need to hide behind your own walls to build up pretend beliefs. I am literally reading the sourcing material from that "study" which I have to use loosely since they are using the same positive feedback loop I already described in previous posts regarding most of our media outlets. This is a link to the ADL though to describe the alt-right and leaders in its group:

https://www.adl.org/resources/backgrounders/from-alt-right-to-alt-lite-naming-the-hate

Most of their sources are from left leaning (some more left leaning) media outlets and its also not peer reviewed because it's just a collaboration of opinions from media aside from the ADL which I posted.

3 pinnochios for this study 😱

I think anyone who doesn't take that study seriously doesn't understand the data it used. It has only been discredited for people who are like those described in it.

O.K. let's take it up a notch

Cambridge Analytica's own data.

Blaming it on 'YouTube' is silly. And, I'm actually more liberal now, as I used to be more socialist, which is more authoritarian. I veered more towards classic British liberal ideas, as they fit a lot of my ethics and philosophies.

My political views have changed many times over the years. They're even changing now: speaking with Artol has given me cause to muse on some of my old non-Marxist socialist / social policy stuff. I try just to be open-minded and weigh things up topic-by-topic. I don't like to become stagnant.

It's only silly if you don't understand the way the algorithms and propaganda.

I can believe that, I've also spoken against FB and how its data is collected and essentially able to be rented/sold to advertisers. I advertise for clients on FB and Google everyday, FB is the worst though.

It also doesn't change the narrative of how media has been used to setup missinformation starting with our mainstream insitituions of "news."

I do understand how they work. Either way, as I said, if 'YouTube' has done anything to my politics, it's made them more liberal and less auth-left (socialist).
