Superman per that issue laid out a being whom is orders of magnitude more powerful than the source of this Wonder Woman's powers. He'd unironically one shot her and potentially accidentally kill her.

I had the same thought. Very good question. Superman is one of the greatest fictional heroes, but he is consistently written to rely on help like all of the rest. He's actually in my top 5 favorites. It's a shame when people blow him up to proportions that was never intended. In the very same arc in question, the heroes lose a mock battle against Apex Lex and his band of villains. Superman was among those heroes. He's a real badass, but all characters can lose, and eventually will lose in these stories.
