What's Goya?

This embarrassing hilarity:

Nothing like using the Oval Office to to help sell your friend's products.

It's even fun to have family help too.

You can only imagine what they would have said if Obama did this.

Then the TDS struck many people very hard and they raged and demanded immediate boycotts of Goya foods.

Then Goya foods saw record sales from the Trumpers who were proud of Goya for being brave enough to come out as a Trump supporter.

No, I am not kidding. This is literally what happened. Coming out in support of Trump will get you cancelled, these days. Or at least people who try to cancel you.

We really do need to move all of the extremist leftists into one area and let them run their cancel culture, Marxist, utopia.

So basically the same cry baby behaviour as people "boycotting" Nike because of Colin Kaepernick?

Don't see how it's remotely related to my point about Trump caring more about his own popularity than the citizens it's supposedly his main job to protect (at least that's what people of a certain political persuasion said about Mexican immigrants)

Did it cause Nike sales to increase like the failed boycott of Goya? If so, yes, it's exactly the same.

This is the actual Oath of Office of the PotUS:

Before he enter on the Execution of his Office, he shall take the following Oath or Affirmation:—"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

And I don't know how this Goya foods topic is related to Trump's oath to the US Constitution, either.

That's part of capitalism. The consumer is allowed to mass-buy or boycott a product for whatever reason, be it based on logic or feelings.

The Right-minded are just as guilty of "cancel culture" as the Left-minded and it's been going of for a very long time. eg I'm looking forward to whatever "offensive holiday cup" Starbucks releases this year for the holiday season. I personally hope they find a way to work BLM into their holiday cup to see the meltdowns taken all the way to eleven. I just might start buying my teas at Starbucks if they do that.

Nice. Really enjoy posts from you like this. Right to the point, no one can argue with this.

Do you have examples of successful cancel culture from the right wingers? I differentiate whining with actual cancelling. The right whines about all things moral (while being hypocrites, too) but rarely have I seen them successfully cancel anyone or anything in the last 10 years. They used to be the queens of cancel culture back in the 80s and 90s: anti video games, music, drugs, etc.

I am strongly opposed to cancel culture in general (but not when it comes to voting with your dollars). I think cancelling someone should be regulated - you shouldn't be able to terminate someone from a job if they did something not at work and off the clock in a non-job related capacity, for example.

I largely agree there, someone's off-the-clock time is their own. But it really depends on what is said and the nature of their work.

If someone is a public servant, especially in a position of power over others, then their employer should take into account who they are as a private person. eg A cop ranting open racism on social media should be fired, as that bias is likely to spill into their professional life and the knowledge of this person's views leaves the department open for a possible future lawsuit should an incident occur.

I agree. If you are a marketing executive officer for a company and you're seen doing lines of coke in a club, you should be fired. You exist as a public image of the company and that should be allowable in an employment contract.

If you're a dev who posted to twitter, from home, that you do not support BLM, you should not be able to be terminated for that and a company that tries that should be fined for labor law abuse (if such a protective law existed). Same thing if you come out in support of Trump, gun rights, freedom of speech, etc. All of those are examples of people being cancelled.

Public servants is where I'd say they never have a right to do that - they serve the public so they are always public figures. No racist cops unless they are private police. Code of Conduct for public servants should be federal - ethics. I had to follow them as a government contractor so why can't everyone else?

Never even heard of Goya before all this happened.

I have, but then I live in a neighborhood with a large hispanic population sooo yeah.

Me neither. Now though, I'm gonna be making a point of buying their food ever chance I get. 🙂
