Steve Bannon and 3 others were arrested this morning on charges of defrauding hundreds of thousands of donors who gave them money under the assumption that all the money raised would be used in the construction of the wall along the southern border. They claim that Bannon and the others used a lot of the money for their own personal expenses and benefit.
Was too lazy to start a new thread over this and post the link to the story but this seemed like a sensible thread to share this info in. The story was on FOX if anyone wants to look it up. I just got the pop-up alert on my phone about 15 minutes ago.
Seems they are getting them on a technicality because they talked too big of a game when trying to collect money:
"As alleged, the defendants defrauded hundreds of thousands of donors, capitalizing on their interest in funding a border wall to raise millions of dollars, under the false pretense that all of that money would be spent on construction," said Audrey Strauss, the acting U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York."While repeatedly assuring donors that Brian Kolfage, the founder and public face of We Build the Wall, would not be paid a cent, the defendants secretly schemed to pass hundreds of thousands of dollars to Kolfage, which he used to fund his lavish lifestyle," Strauss continued.
They have each been charged with one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering, which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison.
These morons need to stop exaggerating so much or hungry lawyers will easily get them on fraud charges. You can't make sweeping promises like this and expect to get away with it if you use the money for anything else.
"Kolfage won't get a cent!" (Kolfage proceeds to use many cents)
