I was talking someone earlier today about stuff like this.
The ability to mail your vote in is elitist and ableist.
It requires you to be able to read, complete the voting form correctly, purchase stamps, be able to travel to a mail-drop or post office, and make use of the postal service. Not everyone has that ability and opportunity.
They should allow electronic voting from home using any computing device that's capable of making use of TLS 1.2 or newer. That way, people who can't read and are not readily mobile can still vote with various enabling technologies such as text to speech, voice control, eye tracking, and alternative computing control devices.
While we are at it, implement pre-voting tests to ensure the voters have a minimum level of understanding of American Civics and understanding of the positions and voting history of the candidates on the ballots. I mean, it's what immigrants basically have to do to become a citizen. Make the right to vote be held to just a slightly higher standard than the right to become a US Citizen. 🙂
