Ok so I just watched most of the debate. Have about 30 minutes left but it’s 3:00am and I’m tired so I’ll watch the rest tomorrow. So far I think this is Trump’s best debate performance I’ve seen. He’s relying less on childish zingers and one liners and giving coherent answers with confidence while also doing a good job bringing up the hunter Biden stuff without concentrating too much on it. Also by not interrupting constantly it’s making him seem more mature and less cowardly. Trump’s been doing a good job. Though I think his weakest moments came during the healthcare section. He didn’t really have good answers for anything there.
Biden is about the same as the first debate I guess. He’s benefiting from not being interrupted constantly but I think the new rules are benefiting Trump by making him seem more mature by default. So far Biden hasn’t made any huge gaffes or stumbled terribly and has given decent answers. Think he’s doing ok but that Trump is much improved over the first debate.
The moderator is doing a very good job so far. Questions are fair and she is doing a good job keeping control, letting the candidates reply to each other but in a controlled way.
All that said, I don’t think this debate will prove change anyone’s mind. I think if it does it will probably be helpful to Trump and maybe get him back some people who maybe moved away from him after how he acted in the first debate. But overall I think supporters for each candidate will probably be pretty pleased with how their candidate performed.
Did you see the excel sheet I kept?
I tracked all the questions and interruptions. I also tried to the major talking points from each candidate in the second tab.
Trump interrupted 18 times. Biden interrupted 23 times.
Trump got asked 15 gotcha questions. Biden got a net of 5.
Here it all is in order:
