Ok so I just watched most of the debate. Have about 30 minutes left but it’s 3:00am and I’m tired so I’ll watch the rest tomorrow.

So far I think this is Trump’s best debate performance I’ve seen. He’s relying less on childish zingers and one liners and giving coherent answers with confidence while also doing a good job bringing up the hunter Biden stuff without concentrating too much on it. Also by not interrupting constantly it’s making him seem more mature and less cowardly. Trump’s been doing a good job. Though I think his weakest moments came during the healthcare section. He didn’t really have good answers for anything there.

Biden is about the same as the first debate I guess. He’s benefiting from not being interrupted constantly but I think the new rules are benefiting Trump by making him seem more mature by default. So far Biden hasn’t made any huge gaffes or stumbled terribly and has given decent answers. Think he’s doing ok but that Trump is much improved over the first debate.

The moderator is doing a very good job so far. Questions are fair and she is doing a good job keeping control, letting the candidates reply to each other but in a controlled way.

All that said, I don’t think this debate will prove change anyone’s mind. I think if it does it will probably be helpful to Trump and maybe get him back some people who maybe moved away from him after how he acted in the first debate. But overall I think supporters for each candidate will probably be pretty pleased with how their candidate performed.

Did you see the excel sheet I kept?

I tracked all the questions and interruptions. I also tried to the major talking points from each candidate in the second tab.

Trump interrupted 18 times. Biden interrupted 23 times.

Trump got asked 15 gotcha questions. Biden got a net of 5.

Here it all is in order:

Parts 1 and 2 for questions and interruptions:

Parts 1 and 2 for major talking points:

Did Joe Biden more or less say he was going to get rid of the oil industry at the debate?

He said I believe he was going to ban fracking and prevent further licenses or permits to drill/acquire fossil fuels on govt owned land in a previous forum.

In the debate Biden denied he said that but both he and kamela have said they would.

Yeah, I remember Biden saying he's pro fracking in the debate.

Ah yes I found it:

Trump asks, ‘Will you remember that, Texas?’ as Biden vows ‘transition’ from oil

"Former Vice President Joe Biden said at the final presidential debate Thursday night that he would make the US “transition” from the oil industry if elected president to fight against pollution.

Biden was asked about climate change and if regulations would hurt job creation by host Kristen Welker when Trump pushed him with an off-the-cuff question about the oil industry.

“I would transition from the oil industry, yes,” Biden said.

“That’s a big statement,” Trump chided the former vice president.

Host Kristen Welker asked Biden why he would do that.

“Because the oil industry pollutes, significantly,” Biden said. “It has to be replaced by renewable energy over time, over time. I’d stop giving them federal subsidies.”

Trump blasted Biden’s statement, saying he had essentially vowed to “destroy” the oil industry.

“That’s maybe the biggest statement in terms of business. What he is saying is he is going to destroy the oil industry,” Trump said."

Biden's not going to destroy the oil industry, you douche.

If America can move to clean, renewable energy, and create new jobs for those in the oil industry, go ahead and destroy it.

You seem frustrated, but be frustrated at Biden not me. Trump asked him if he was going to close down the oil industry and Biden said “I would transition from the oil industry, yes".

😬 he said transition, but whatever. Let's say that's destroying it, it isn't, it's not closing down either, it's simply reinvesting in alternatives whilst keeping it alive for the time being. But heyy, make up your own definitions.

He said "I would transition from the oil industry yes". He answered yes to the question of closing it down, because he knows to transition from that industry to another one would eventually in fact achieve that.

I mean come on man if we can't even agree on what words mean now what is the point? U know damn well what he meant with his answer.

"eventually"

I think it’s a good idea. Not like it would shut down instantly or even relatively soon.

And DDM, yeah I saw your spreadsheet. That was a very useful thing to do.

But Trump is right in that it's probably going to cost him support in places like Texas.

We should invest more in nuclear.

Probably. Dems are playing a bit of damage control with that answer right now.

Still think it was a refreshing honest answer that most politicians would have tried to dodge. Am actually surprised Biden didn’t.

Even the debate moderator responded with "why would you do that?".

I think she meant "why would you say that out loud?".

I don’t think so. Just sounded to me like she was asking him to expand on his reasoning.

We need to focus on nuclear.

I agree with Surtur on nuclear. Japan is doing very well with regards to nuclear energy and most of British politicians who used to be against it are in favour of it.
