Power Cosmic is by far the better power source. Surfer has created Stars, Black Holes, teleported Planets, created life, cured a cosmic plague with a thought, rapidly evolved planets, has the ability to understand the secrets of the Universe, Cosmic awareness, Time Travel, Teleportation, and has even held on to this power while in the Void or in the previous Universe BEFORE 616. Lanterns have been known to RUN OUT of power and need recharging, period.

Your insecurities about it doesn't change that fact
