Yeah, pretty much. He's closer to a real-life trained combatant in how he tends to perform compared to a lot of other similar agent-type characters. It also doesn't help him that the mooks on his show actually often tend to use their numbers to their advantage and have no qualms ganging up on someone. I am pretty sure I can recall a few instances where one guy would grab his arms so that another could lay into him. But I suppose it would probably be different if his show was a solo act and he didn't have a team to back him with their own skill sets. First Jack did and now Desi fulfills the more unrealistic H2H badass role in the show.

He gets jumped all the time. But he's not above a combo with Desi or Riley either in some cases. But yes, those 2 are the combat specialists, Riley's the hacker, Russ in the newer seasons is the veteran team leader, and Mac is the problem solver. Bozer is a great 6th man too. And everyone is actually a decent fighter so they can mix it up.

Also, speaking on random amazing things Mac can do, in the newest episode(RIP Jack Dalton), he makes a gattling gun that shoots ball bearings out of some industrial machinery he found in a warehouse. It took like 20 seconds to make and it launched them hard enough to knock people out, dent cars and shatter glass using a hand crank. As well as an electromagnet strong enough to pull 2 fully grown people in metal chairs from a floor below them.

Speaking of the old show, the very first Macgyver joke was in the pilot.

The show runners knew what they were going for w. Mac right out the gate.

Newest episode of Macgyver makes it canon that he's fast enough to turn around and catch a snake mid-strike from like a foot away. Snakes are so fast that they can bite you four times in under a second and he caught one with ease. I love this show.

And he can apparently will PVC pipe to be strong enough to pole-vault with lol.
