I see your point, but I think it's worth trying, CPP really has a terrible rate of return and people should be free to use their income to invest that money elsewhere.

That way retired people won't have to worry about where they're getting their money from. They'll be taken care of at a base level on top of whatever they saved.

Not only that but it's not in the Government's pockets. The Government are elected officials whom we trust to spend tax payer money for the benefit of the tax payer. But that money still belongs to tax payers. Corruption aside it's not in anyone else's pockets.

Not if you are a sovereign government with your own currency. You can just print as much money as you think you need. Of course there's potential for over or undergoing that. But taxes and spending are political policy decisions, not financial decisions for sovereign governments.
