Trumps Chinese flu comments and Incels lead to violence against Asian women.

Anti-Asian racism and misogyny far predate Trump. But are indeed real problems.

That's disturbing

The guy said he targeted massage parlours because they "tempt" him.

So there's no evidence that racism was involved and the suspect has also said that, but of course people are turning this into a race issue.

No real problem looking at race under the circumstances.

Using this as an excuse to attack Trump is just stupid.

Fits the theme of the piece though. The writer is an obvious provocateur.

He did shoot 6 Asian women in Asian massage parlors because he wanted to eliminate his sexual temptation he felt for them.

I don't see how that could not involve race.

If you wanted to kill women, a massage parlor would be a good place to find them.

Race has nothing to do with it, it seems.

Race played a role, yes. But was it a hate crime?

The reporting made it seem like the man hates asians, and would have killed any asians. Its looking like the man actually hated sex workers at massage parlors, and would have killed anyone who worked at those sex parlors.

I don't really have an opinion on how the legal system could characterize that crime in that way. I think it is pretty clear that racism played a role, particularly with Asian women the racism is more based on a sexualization of them. I do agree though that it seems like a hatred of sex workers played into it as well (not sure these women were sex workers even, maybe they just did normal massages, idk). And I mean it is also this kind of misogyny where women are responsible for the male sexual urges, which is incredibly common in the west and in Christianity particularly. Like he can't control his urges, which he views as bad, and so the women that turn him on are to blame and must be punished and eliminated.

They do sex stuff, that I can confirm (Don't ask)

We call massage parlors "Rub and tugs".

I am aware that some massage parlors do that, but not all, right? I mean it may be true, I have no idea, I don't think it should matter either way.

Right wing Incels.

Do they really come in another flavour?

Nope, No they don't.

Why did he specifically target Asian parlours though? Could be a coincidence I guess, but is at least suspect that race may also have played into his agenda.

Then again could be that he's tempted more by Asian women, which wouldn't be racist.

Personally yeah I think this is very, very likely a racist attack in part, and definitely an example of "incel terrorism".

Good post.

Also to note is that some of the victims were older women who worked at the parlours, who were not sex workers. So the shooter was shooting any old Asian who happened to be there.

Police reaction to the shooting was disgraceful, trying to play it off as the murderer just having a "bad day". No surprise there though really.

Reading a lot in the outset of this news story about the racism that asian americans face. That's what I get for living in my little social bubble - I'm lucky in the sense I don't have to face this kind of abuse in my community. You'd think everyone treating each other kindly would be easy enough to do
