Brauer College asks male students to "apologize" for their gender.

Schoolboys from Brauer College in Warrnambool were asked to stand in a "symbolic gesture of apology" on behalf of their gender, at a whole school assembly discussing respect for women this week.

😆

Ridiculous, there should be disciplinary action for whoever is responsible for this.

Australia isn't real anyway.

Normal.

The fact the college downplayed the offense shows how casual this kind of activism is. Only reason it became news is due to rare parental invovement, normally they're hands off and have no clue whats happening on campus.

Feminism is ruining society.

Its not feminism exactly, its something to do with how the administration is set up.

One of the reasons Evergreen was note worthy is because it has video of a calm professor asking how he can defend himself against charges of racism, and the head of equity yelling in his face "You aren't supposed to be able to defend yourself!"

While a council of the professors peers sit in silence, refusing to stick their necks out for him.

Then there's the president on camera being refused bathroom access after students took over the campus, yet defended his behavior of indulging them, in addition to telling security to stand down, to a government inquiry by essentially admitting he was terrified of being murdered or having a blood bath.

Essentially, it seems like university's are deliberately built around quelling social unrest at any cost, including throwing faculty under the bus, while getting money from the kids parents/government loans. This means kids can do what they want, since the college doesn't want activist demonstrations tipping the apple cart.

The parental involvement is actually the part that confuses me.

"Mother Danielle Shepherd told 3AW's Neil Mitchell this morning her Year 7 son was left feeling "confused and upset" by the act."

Why would a guy who is in his 7th year of college and presumably in his mid 20's go to his mom with this instead of handling it himself?

Colleges mean something different in Australia (and the UK for that matter). In Australia apparently Year 7 corresponds to the ages of 12 to 13. In the UK "college" is more like age 17.

In Australia, Year 7 is usually the eighth year of compulsory education. Although there are slight variations between the states, most children in Year 7 are aged from twelve to thirteen. Children in Year 7 start High School, Secondary School or Secondary Colleges, or finish Primary School.

Year 7 in the UK is 12 years old. You mean 6th form which is an archaic term for tertiary college and you have the upper and lower sixth form. which is like your year 11 and 12. sixth form years are 12 and 13. When you have four grown kids you get to know this shit 😂

Thanks.

I thought that might be the case before posting but i guess google gave me some bad info.

"What age do you start college in Australia?

18

The age of admission to university is usually 18 (although most admit exceptional students at a younger age) and courses are usually for three years, although some last for four"

Australia is a confusing place, maybe Jaden was right about it. 🙂

yeah but the UK has 16-18 yo courses for Btecs and some kinda education which is usually nursing. I've never been to one, I went to sixth form 🙂 but even back then the clues were in the names. "A levels" Vs "Btecs" 😂

^Fake news

The son is 12 years old, according to internet searches. I listened to the audio interview on the OP's article, and I agree with the mother and the interviewer.

I think the school had good intentions, but that was a dumb move. Teaching the students about consent is good and should happen. The "stand up and apologize" segment serves no meaningful purpose though, and frames the kids as predators by nature.

This is the tone set my many activists.

This is why you get push back. Because too many people really do believe unearned privilage equates to guilt. Sit down, shut up, listen, and don't argue is pretty awful for creating open dialogs.

But great for rallying the base.
