Resonsible Gun Owner Killed When His Dog Steps on Rifle
The Sumner County Sheriff's Office says a man died over the weekend after his dog stepped on a rifle, causing the firearm to discharge.
The incident happened at around 9:40 a.m. Saturday in the 1600 block of 80th Street, north-northeast of Geuda Springs. The sheriff's office said the man was sitting in the front passenger seat of his pickup and he had hunting gear and a rifle in the backseat.
"A canine belonging to the owner of the pickup stepped on the rifle causing the weapon to discharge," the sheriff's office said. "The fired round struck the passenger who died of his injuries on scene."
Awful.
Over a Dozen Guns Found in Rally Shooter's Home
More than a dozen guns were found in a search of the Crooks family home. After Crooks opened fire, his father called police to say he was worried that his son and his AR rifle were missing. Police went to the home after the call.
The FBI is looking into whether some ammunition was purchased in the days before the rally shooting, according to one senior law enforcement official. They are probing whether some of the ammunition was picked up and brought to the Crooks' family home or whether it was delivered there.

The father of 20-year-old shooter Thomas Crooks was previously identified by the former president's campaign as one of the voters in his area most likely to respond favorably to pro-gun messaging.
That is according to confidential data which said 53-year-old Matthew Crook—who legally purchased the AR-15 rifle used by his son to fire at Trump as he spoke at a Butler, Pennsylvani, rally on Saturday—was covertly profiled by the Trump team in 2016 as "a strong Republican, likely gun owner and hunter."
In 2013, Matthew Crooks bought the gun used in Saturday afternoon's assassination attempt. Crooks purchased 50 rounds of 5.56 ammunition earlier on Saturday, authorities said.
Matthew Crooks scored highly across a range of gun-related models including: 0.99 for the likelihood of returning a warranty card for a firearms purchase; 0.95 for the likelihood of pursuing hunting sports; and 0.94 for the likelihood of shopping at a hunting retailer.
Overall, averaged across all three of these measures, out of more than 19,000 people in Bethel Park, Matthew Crooks was among the top 20 highest scoring individuals.
In total, the data technique was deployed in ten swing states—scoring a total of around 50 million individuals—to find voters who could be susceptible to political messages about gun-rights, a bedrock issue in all of Donald Trump's presidential campaigns.
