Scarlett Johansson sues Disney

Johansson made 20 million for Black Widow and now she’s suing Disney for a “breach of contract” that could cost her up to 30 million more.

First world problems, indeed.

Is she right or wrong?

She's absolutely in the right. It is a binding contract.. Pretty shitty for Disney (which we all already knew were shitty) to break the terms of contract with her by pathetically using the "but covid!" excuse.

She sued them because Disney marvel films are garbage and Disney responded “no, it was because of the pandemic!” Ffs.

From what I've seen, she's right here.

And as for people saying she's a millionaire so who cares; would you rather the money go to Disney or her?

I want the money to go to me. 😅

How good do you look in a skin tight black outfit?

Not nearly as good as Johansson does I'm sure.

"The lawsuit is especially sad and distressing in its callous disregard for the horrific and prolonged global effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Disney has fully complied with Ms. Johansson’s contract and furthermore, the release of Black Widow on Disney+ with Premiere Access has significantly enhanced her ability to earn additional compensation on top of the $20M she has received to date.”

so basically...

"she should be ashamed for expecting us to honor our contract, because something something covid. also look at how much money she's already makimg its totally ethical and professional to just blurt her salary out like that and use it as a weapon"

For me Covid has been about a fair bit of fi ancial sacrifice. I certainly don't want no films in cinema's when it's all over.

Yup.

Doesnt after what she earned. As if Disney are poor.

Fact is Disney made a move to potentially benefit themselves more, without negotiating new terms for Scar so she doesnt get screwed in the process.

Without a doubt a breach of contract (not that Ive read the contract, but assuming), and even more unethical to use Covid as an excuse and then publicly attempting to shame her by outing her salary.

And btw WB did pay out Gadot and Jenkins when they released WW84 on HBO same day as theatres.

And now it seems that Emma Stone is considering the same action for her Cruella film.

Disney need taking down a good several hundred pegs TBH. Hope they are tangled up in this for ages and it prevents them from buying/ruining anything else for that time. Doubt it but I can have a fervent prayer.

I figure if you're an accomplished actor and have been in more than a few movies then you should be aware of the dirty tricks Disney is capable of, she's been in all the Avengers movies and should have taken extra precautions legally if she didn't want to get screwed.

The contract is the precaution. Disney cant win this case assuming it said in the contract about it being exclusively a box office film where she will get a % of box office take.

And to be fair this contract was made before anyone knew what Covid was, so theres no way she could have anticipated this.

Look into "Hollywood contracts", you would be shocked at the things they get away with.

For example, a studio can set up a shell company for special effects, overcharge themselves for these effects, and turn record profits into losses on paper, just below the point where the talent would need to be paid for a successful film.

Darth Vader was never paid for Return of the Jedi using such tricks.

Guy in the suit.

James Earl Jones had enough clout to demand his cut off the top, instead of the back end.
