David Prowse himself has claimed that he wasn't paid residuals for Jedi because Lucasfilm claimed the movie hasn't actually made a profit.
Now, he could be lying, but from what's been written about Hollywood Accounting, it's not that far-fetched.

Royalties are part of how actors get paid.
Apparently a lot of the tricks revolve around profits, and making a profitable movie look unprofitable.
Actors get around that these days by demanding fixed amounts irrespective of how much a movie makes. But of course it takes star power to demand bigger sums.
That's why RBJ negotiating a bigger payout for the new Spidey actor and others is such a big deal, he never needed to see him paid six or seven figures. That's just the kind of guy RBJ is.
