I've said I think it's a problem in elections down south, when a candidate gets more of the popular vote but doesn't get the Presidency. So while I am a left leaning voter, I have to acknowledge this is two elections in a row where the Conservatives got more of the popular vote, but their leader doesn't become Prime Minister.

But this is where the virtues of a minority government force parties to work together, so it's good for the rest of us. It's not as bad as the all-or-nothing outcomes of the U.S. system, where you are locked in for four years no matter what.

And it's an indictment of the Conservatives themselves, being unable to take advantage of a vulnerable Justin Trudeau two elections in a row. He had the SNC-Lavalin affair in 2019, and Conservative hatred of COVID restrictions this time, plus he looked arrogant for calling the snap election.

The PCs were done in by Alberta as well, the most Conservatively run province which is cratering badly under COVID after getting rid of all restrictions too soon.

I saw a good analogy about this....

The Leafs scored more goals against the Habs in the playoffs....but lost the series...because they didn't score when needed.

Popular vote is meaningless in the Canadian system....you win elections by winning ridings.

That's why we need Ranked Choice voting.
