The worst word in the English dictionary when it comes to truth is "smear". One person in the Washington Post comments actually advocated for.smearing anti-vaxers at all costs, and a left wing poster properly told him smearing is never necessary, and only undermines an argument.

Taking lone actors with sympathies to an idealogy as an example of the group is an example of a smear.
