In U.K. if I showed up to a Tommy Robinson Islamaphobic protest with a Knife, and stabbed 3 of the protestors in self defence, who all end up bleeding to death, you can be damn well sure im not getting off Scot freeBecause For starters it would be illegal for me to carry a knife, and for second, no one in their right mind would believe I wasnt there to start trouble.
So yeah Im thankful to be in the U.K. Obviously im not invincible here and can still be killed. But I see literally no benefit to carrying firearms. The only by product of that I see is DEATH.
I guess I wouldnt mind having a gun in my house to protect against intruders, but only if I was the only one. But if it meant intruders were also much more likely to carry a gun, or that we get gun violence and killing all over the place, then SCREW THAT.
After Michael Moore's Bowling For Columbine came out in 2002 and brought some facts to light, I wondered why Americans couldn't see the gun problem in their country, with a homicide rate so incredibly out of whack compared to other Western nations. Even if Canada equalized our population to the same as the USA, you'd still be several times more likely to get murdered by a firearm down south.
But then one mass shooting just followed another in the years since, and I've thrown up my hands at anything changing. Yes, almost every country in the world has a mass shooting event, but the USA has several a year, rather than one every few decades in other places.
I've thought gun bans would be the answer, but I've come to realize it's not realistic. If someone truly believes in home protection, then it's reasonable to have a firearm. But only handguns or shotguns; no one outside the police or military should have access to automatic assault weapons. Because you don't need them for simple home protection! How many of these mass shootings have happened because someone had assault weapons?
And Kyle Rittenhouse just crossed a state line with an assault weapon he shouldn't have had access to, provoked a confrontation with protestors, got off on self defense and got lots of applause from the far right. What a s**tshow.
I will give the kid the benefit of the doubt for now, when he says he's not a white supremacist and wants nothing to do with the far right and their political pundits going forward. But he's going to be under scrutiny for many years to come, so if he f**ks up I will be there to applaud.
