Would be great to pick leaders at random like Jury duty, who go back to their normal lives after. Let's see if they have the balls to start a war without lifetime security afterwards.
In the UK at least, I'd like to see the Lords replaced with a meritocratic chamber with members required to be nominated by their peers in their respective fields and drawn from across economics, science, the arts, business etc. They would need to have a proven track record in their respective areas of expertise. That way you might actually get effective scrutiny and amendments of legislation put forward by the Commons.
Instead we seem to currently have a system where politicians are rejected by the electorate and punted out of office during General Elections but then immediately appointed to the House of Lords so they can continue their political influence. It's absolutely disgraceful and makes a total mockery of democracy.
