The moment you press into the steel (or compress it) it becomes astronomically more durable.
Styrofoam is more brittle than steel. Steel will bend much more before breaking.
I'm not saying that steel that thick is indestructible. But it takes way more force than you think. Magnitudes more force than just a 1in wall of steel.
