What's the best comic in the last 5 years?
Out of the ones I read, Immortal Hulk, maybe?

There was a huge controversy where Ellis' exploitation of women whom were fans or interested in getting into the comics industry was exposed. It happened right as the first series was wrapping up production. I mean... dozens of women.

Fair enough if it's because he's a rape-y bastard.

^ I couldn't take reading more than the first few detailed accounts. My impression was it was not so much rape but an obvious pattern of exploiting his celebrity status in the industry and luring young women into one-night stands and/or ongoing sexual relationships. Dozens and dozens of women.

If you're interested, there's a dedicated website and the frontpage gives you a sense of it:
https://www.somanyofus.com/

And frankly, Ellis' own official response/apology/excuse doesn't really rebut the accusation of predatory behavior:
https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/lifestyle/arts/comics-writer-warren-ellis-responds-sexual-coercion-allegations-1299377/

If you don't want the details, just consider he's almost sixty years old and he doesn't deny grooming twenty year olds. I mean... exactly how much can you condone someone who basically says, "Look... I wanted to help them in the industry. But, y'know... I almost never did... and I just ended up always ****ing them and that totally wasn't the plan from the start! I'll do better in the future, I pinky promise."

Thanks.

new castlevania is decent

anime is just so much better than dc and marvel

It was terrible. Even worse than the last part of the previous series. The characters were inconsistent throughout the show, the opera singer's constant singing was not only jarring but distracted from the scenery (e.g. Annette's fight with Drolta was dragged down by its somber tone), the sound quality of Annette's voice was dogshit, the final villain was terribly designed on every front, and it retreaded the same cliches the previous series did.

Do the fight scenes get better?

From what point? The one in the dungeon was the best. But Richter's fight against Drolta wasn't too bad, although it didn't conclude.

the fight scenes are quality as always.

No way they could keep him attached to the show.

Isn't it funny how rockstars from the 70s - 90s were able to gain clout from this, and hip-hop stars arguably still do, but nearly every other medium it is taboo?

That said, I don't recall the actual accusations but I'm pretty sure there are no official court proceedings so it's all court of public opinion. Imagine if record labels had to drop artists back in the day.

The seasons of the first series just get better, IMHO. Every season once it wrapped, I was like... that was better than the previous season. But I admit that you do need to watch that season's conclusion otherwise you might feel like you're getting slow-dripped the plot.

It's a binge show, not a wait a week for each episode show. Indeed, the way some episodes end make no narrative sense and are jarring.

I guess. I just didn't like most of the totality of the 2nd season as much as the 1st. It's been a while though. What I need to do is watch them all from start to finish one day. Maybe after my DBZ kick is over I'll do it.

Oh cool, that's on my docket!

gen v might be better than the boys

Profound is an adjective. Profounding isn't a word.

You mean a solid world? Worldview refers to someone's view of the world they inhabit.

But I disagree. It retreads the same trite cliches of the church being evil, and the villains being misunderstood.

The fight scenes weren't bad. But I'm not sure you can attribute that to the writing.

Season 2 but not 1 or 3. I'm really enjoying Gen V so far.

i like the cast in gen v better, everyone was interesting except the leading black chick

this is how dc and marvel should do their tv shows, how ordinary people would behave with superpowers. not just goody two shoes trying to save the world

give me a break i rarely post here sober

castlevania is good because it's aesthetically pleasing and easy to watch. i dont have that high standard when it comes to anime. a lot of animes have good worldview but they lack quality in production.

A minor can be groomed. An adult just has bad judgment. If you are 20-years-old and you have sex with someone three times your age to advance your career, you are not a victim, you are a participant.

Sounds exactly like something that a mysogynist, rapist, creep or incel would say. Good for you.

It's far better than most other animation/anime/video game efforts. 👆

Abbot Emmanuel's self-characterization of his dilemma as if it were the Binding of Isaac was ham-fisted to me and made him feel so conceited. At first. Then Tera revealed herself to be the "ram" and that made me realize that the Abbot wasn't just a one-note religious fruitcake antagonist.
