Sounds like season 1. Its important for future seasons. It gets better after.

edit, Found out last night they finally put Hajime no ippo on Netflix! Need the rest of the seasons on there. Top 3 anime for me with ease.

The first season is definitely the least Jojo of the parts, part 2 is usually where people consider it to have come into its own and part 3 introduces the Stand battles the series became famous for.

stone ocean, my favorite season. jolyne is my favorite jojo for sure. she's not the strongest but her will and grit really showed.
