You're in Canada right Parm?
I can't even exaggerate just how bad Americans are when it comes to money. My own dear mother worked for an oral surgeon practice for most of her life, her bosses always treated their employees well. They also did a lot of pro bono work for those who couldn't afford their services or get state help.
They retire, and the new younger management immediately treats these 60 something year old women with contempt. They wanted tech savvy young administrative assistants, and they didn't want to be paying the wages these women earned or wait for them to retire. They actually tried to push my mom out without any compensation at all and were shocked she knew her own rights and held their feet to the fire over it.
She could have gotten better, but wanted to be done with them so took what she could get, which is fine she planned well for retirement.
Needless to say the pro bono work was stopped as soon as one of the patients who relied on charity came in, she can thank my mom for guilt tripping them into it.
All anyone cares about here is money, and they don't care how they get it. No system can fix that, not private insurance and not universal health care. What we need is a complete overhaul of the health care system.
