New trailer dropped:

Urban is absolutely killing it as Cage, hes dropping one liners like a cheesy 90s action hero. Shao and Scorpion look sick, and the fight scenes look like theyre ripped from the game. I'm not going into this expecting Taxi Driver, it totally looks like homage to the game/90s action films. It looks like its going to be a fun film

Cage haters or anti-Cage fanboys are bar none the weirdest part of the MK fandom, but seeing them seethe today brings me joy. They make him basically the focus of this film, if yesterday's teaser wasn't enough indication. For a movie, none of the MK characters have an audience pull like he does, though some think that because he's a comic relief, he's not or can't really be a protagonist. Uh, okay? The Flash is typically a comic relief out of the Justice League but doesn't make him any less another hero/protagonist.

Another thing with old school fans though is if it ain't your Bruce Lee facsimile Liu Kang beating everyone in the story, it ain't right, but that shtick got old at a certain point which was why the series deviated from him here and there as the sole focus. As far as this current live action universe though, seems they really took the criticisms of the 2021 film to heart with how the unneeded OC Cole Young has little to no screen time if the trailer is anything to go by.

Far as the other characters, Raiden's costume looks more authentic this time, glad to see they're going over the top with Kitana's trademark fan weapons, and seeing Scorpion kill a Noob Saibot shadow clone was interesting. Not sure why they made Jade bald though, but that's a minor nitpick out of everything else.

The last one was terrible I hope this is better. I am not a cage fan but it doesn't really bother me. They treated Scorpion badly in the first one which passed me off. And I hate the origin of the powers. They should have just left the original story as it was and not brought in the dumbass Cole character.

Even if I wasn't a Cage fan, they paid big bucks to get this guy to not only be a part of but carry the film; to do what Cole Young in the previous film could not.

Scorpion slinging through the Netherrealm like Spider-Man is a nice spectacle at least, far as him.

The 2021 movie was trash to me, even worse than the 1997 sequel which i loathe.

This one looks so much more in line w. the 1995 movie which is one of my favorite movies.

For all the things (rightfully) said against the 1997 film, 2021 repeated a lot of its mistakes; at least in how I experienced the latter, but some apparently watched a different film from me. The main difference was you had the maiming & fatalities that time around, but those leave no impact when you still have subpar writing even by MK standards.

I admit I had a crashout and was kind of a dick with people who liked the 2021 film; I guess 24 years after Annihilation and still being disappointed with the next attempt will do that, but while MK 2021 wasn't for me, more power to those who liked it while still looking forward to this new one. Think everyone can agree that this sequel will be better than 2021 regardless. Sometimes you have to break some eggs to make an omelette and all that.

First impressions from the trailer today aside, think people might be jumping the shark on Cage being the main lead. While he's the most marketable, we don't really know who all is gonna fight who... I'm sure everyone will get some fight scene, but the question of where others like Sub-Zero II are is valid questions; Shang Tsung was still among the character posters even though he wasn't in the trailer from what I could tell. Others like Smoke and Kintaro would also be nice (I say Kintaro since we've had Goro be used enough by this point). Previous dead characters in 2021 like Kano and Kung Lao back is nice, on that note.

We take whoever we can get though, and a common mistake between 1997 and 2021 was having too many characters too little screen time, which I'd like to try avoiding. We'll probably have that again, but whatever.

Looks like they're redoing the story from MK: Annihilation. Except this time its going to be done right.

^^^No; to Hell w. them, no power to those ppl!

MK 2021 is one of those times you look at others and go, “How…how can you have such incredibly BAD taste”?

I really like that they're bringing back the 90s cheese. With Karl Urban, this is great.

Yeah, that's fair. Even then though, I can't act like this was nothing to like about the film. Kano gave some nice personality that 2021 otherwise would not have had, and Sub-Zero was a badass fighter.

And while I still stand by everything that's been said against the OC Cole Young, will say the guy who plays him (Lewis Tan) is cool. He proved himself a real MK fan with his knowledge shown in the interviews and everything; he actually knew shit about the series compared to the other cast of MK 2021. Just a shame that a weirdly placed OC kinda put a target on his back when he's a well likable person and talent, who could've been a lot of MK characters.

In hindsight he was amusing here in this Iron Fist fight scene; nevermind how solid he was as the final boss in the Cobra Kai show.

Seen some people online saying they already showed Noob Saibot's death in the trailer, Scorpion killing the shadow clone

those folks clearly don't know how his powers work.

My biggest gripe with 2021 was how they got their powers. So magical powers gave you robot arms? So stupid and completely took away their skills and whatever hard work they used to get the power.
"We just got mad and got powers lol"

Same, I absolutely hated that. I could have forgiven a lot of that movie’s numerous other issues if they just didn’t do that bullshit.

To make matters worse, the symbol of them having power was the dragon tattoo from Annihilation. lol

Looks awful. Nothing will match the 1995 version.

^^^Well you’re half right.

Good thing its not trying to be like the 95 film. All it needs to do is be better then its sequel.

^^^ 👆

The 1995 film will always have its place both culturally and its influence over the mainstream series, but I'm not gonna be so nostalgia driven as to compare every piece of MK media that comes out to it; MK 2021 was an exception since it was kind of a divisive reboot, but this film looks like it has its own legs to stand on, and if I can enjoy it in a vacuum, that's enough.

The only main negatives I've seen for this film so far is Jade's bald appearance and some still being skeptical of Karl Urban Cage because of how older he is than most of the other cast, but the age thing is a weak angle to play on with an actor of Karl's notoriety that not only still looks the part but could play Cage in his sleep. The Jade thing I don't even see as a hill worth dying on unless perhaps you're a diehard Jade fan, but is just gonna be one of the side characters as usual anyway.
