Growing up in an evangelical household I was kind of deprived of the dinosaur childhood and my young mind was warped by creationist brainwashing. To this day I'm still greatly annoyed by that.

But I'm making up for it now. Seeing the Sue T-Rex skeleton in person in Chicago a few years ago was probably the most awe inspiring thing I've ever seen. Just amazing.

So I'm pretty stoked that a new, decently fun Jurassic movie is out.

^^^Thats all pretty cool; glad you caught up!

While the bible didn't specifically mention dinosaurs by name, since the term was coined much later, some interpretations suggest that descriptions of creatures like behemoth and leviathan in old testament verses may refer to dinosaur kind of animals; at least that's how I see it.

What cannot be interpreted from the book whatsoever though is aliens, which is why aliens built the pyramids and all that is on the complete opposite side of spectrum with beliefs.

Sorry to hear that your household was extremist enough that you didn't get to see the first JP when it was in theaters, in any case. My parents are evangelical too but still took us to see it when I was 6 or so. Was still too young an age for me to remember the initial experience that well enough, but the fond memories are still there, as there was nothing else like it.

This current film though? The responses are about what I expected, which tells me to just wait on it.

I think it's to do with the age of the Earth. Either that or they can't reconcile Dinosaurs essentially ruling the Earth before Man.

^^^Exactly.
And really, ruling is a silly way to put it.
I mean, these were just animals doing animal things; they dont reflect on the whole man being superior shtick the Bible tries to sell.

Its not like Planet of The Apes where the apes were hiding the fact that humans had had a superior civilization prior to them.

Moses didnt wander 40 days and nights in the desert, then stumble on a statue of t-rex liberty buried in the sand and go “oh snap we need to keep this shit under wraps”.

I would argue it delivers on visuals, locations/setpieces, and compelling sequences. But I didn't watch the final trailer until I saw the movie, and it shows most of it. I'm glad I saw it on a big screen. But yes, it follows basically the same formula with some silliness throughout.

^^^Nothing wrong w. that.

It's a JP vehicle that gets you from point A to point B, probably the dullest of all the films TBH, because it offered nothing really new. Having said that, it still had entertainment value and visually it's something done best on a large screen with great booming sound.

The final boss was just stupid, looked cool, but why.
