The federal courts exist in part to keep presidential powers in check. What Speaker and Ultra MAGA Mike Johnson is suggestion is in line with wanting a dictatorship.
All they need to do is decide they are above the law and ignore the courts. That's the plan, and has probably been the plan since 1974. They're dipping their toes in the water, gauging responses, and trying to find out whether or not they even need a Reichstag Fire to pull it off, and the end game is "goodbye courts", which means they do whatever they want.
