I think people saying things like "Gandalf dies differently" aren't realizing what they are saying.
Death is death, and all in lotr die...
It's not that they die differently but that they ARE DIFFERENT.
Humans are just humans, a soul...that's it...
Elves, they are not even from middle earth.
Same with the istari.
When Elves die they go to valinor(?) as Elrond's wife did when she was poisoned.
And Istari are beyond the elves...they don't go anywhere, they are on Middle Earth till their job is complete. Gandalf didn't "die" his form may have, but that means nothing, he is not a body...he is a different being all together, simply looks human.
i think hes around 7000 yrs old, though in the movies he gives a specific number of human generations as his age, which i calculatefd to be less than that.
lookitup in the enyclopedia of arda. they might have it:

Gandalf is actually around 2,050 years old. He came to Middle-Earth around 1000 of the Third Age, and he left Middle Earth in the late 3000 of the Third Age, so he's pretty old.
According to the LotR novels, Haldir and his brothers never went to Helm's Deep, they stayed at Lothlorien to defend their city because according to the books, Saruman sent armies to attack Imladris and Lorien too.
Gandalf, the physical body, is indeed something like 2050 years old. However Olórin, the spirit (a Maia) which inhabited that body is well over 10,000 years old. If you can figure out how old Earth is in the Lord of the Rings, then you know that he's older. Olórin (Gandalf), Curumo (Saruman), Aiwendil (Radagast), Alatar and Pallando (the "Blue Wizards," the Ithryn Luin, who traveled into the East of Middle-Earth and did not return) were all beings created prior to the creation of Eä (the World), as was Sauron and the Balrogs, so they are all older than the World. To my knowledge there is no text that tells just how long the Ainur (the spirits in Lord of the Rings known as the Valar and Maiar) dwelt with Ilúvatar ("all-father," the creater of the Ainur, Eä, and, well... everything). Therefore I cannot tell you how old any of them are, and since I do not know the age of Eä, I cannot tell you that either, but others may know more. Sufficed to say, he's very, very, very, very, very, very old.
