Indeed. Sorry, but the events of the most direct material- as opposed to the other, less reliable material Tolkien wrote- clearly shows that Gandalf was TOTALLY surprised by Saruman's actions in FOTR and had not been suspicious.

for starters your sig sux sauron (the scroll names that is)

anyways, I take it this would have been the third age, Saruman simply looked as a villian

must go, am in school

why? you are on it you know

well, actually ^^ thats from unfinished tales...and he wrote about 5 versions.......but...well i suppose it would be better for him to have gandalf suprised in fotr..adds to the dramatic essence of the rivalry 😛

but im sure that...well, he probably suspected..or had a faint thought, even subliminaly, just like his subliminal thoughts that he must send a hobbit on the quest to erebor....which proved a huge help in gandalfs original task

*cough discuss*

I have a lot of respect for Gandalf the Grey/White. He's a magnificent character and it broke my heart as he left for the grey havens at the end of return of the king. He's such a powerful character and gives off so much energy to the movie, Ian McKellan did an excellent job that no other could have pulled off.
