though, Syria is an Iranian ally. Who wants to make a bet with me, Saudi Arabia's actions will be supported by the Americans as falling within "international treaty law", but the Syrian regime will have to go!

the white house's position thus far has been to say the Saudis haven't invaded, and for Obama to call the Saudi king, in a conversation where he apparently agreed that sunni control of Bahrain must be preserved

like, what is that? they pressured the Egyptian military, they are going to start bombing Libya, but the Saudis get a phone call where the president agrees with them and refuses to call a foreign occupation such.

The title of this thread is wrong to me. It should read the peasants are revolting.... which is far more truthful.

interesting discussion about the future of Egypt, and some context on their recent refferendum on the national constitution.

The elections themselves seemed to be free and fair, though there are issues about how quickly the processes is going.

Most interesting, pay attention to the Muslim Brotherhood guest. Clearly not a Islamist radical, and while not a member of progressive and secular Egyptian society, clearly supports the new democratic order. Seems to want things to move quickly because that would benefit the brotherhood's existant organized structure.

very interesting. With Saudi Arabia willing to flex its muscles, will it oppose Yemen's own army to keep its man in power?

the UN calls for an end to violence and dialog, nothing about a "illegitimate ruler", way to talk out of both sides of your mouth UN. why can't we have dialog with Ghaddafi?

I just heard about this. Good on that General for his stance. I think he has a "righteous" cause.

when America attacked Iraq in 2003, they were able to create huge scale defection among the Iraqi forces. I hope similar things are being done in Libya, here as well, though I sincerely doubt the Americans have their fingers in the Saudi's pie.

but ya, it seems the real mechanism that allows these revolutions to occur is the position of the army and security forces. Hopefully the rest of the Yemeni security establishment follows suit.
