I have no problem with them bringing any of the other version's of Superman to the screen, But "if" it is Calvin Ellis, I just feel like they're doing it because Marvel had success with Black Panther.
Yup the guy himself is sort of racist too. And if this movie isn't received well by audiences, but is lauded by critics I'm sure there will be gaslighting and blaming racism just like when people didn't like the last jedi and sexism was blamed.

In the end I just feel like this is pandering. And unnecessary. But even with that they could have gone the standard route without bringing Coates in. I mean you didn't see The Flash asking Cornel West to write episodes.
Just give us evil psychic superman.

They gave us a legit reason to hope it bombs. Too funny.

IMO you could find a lot more success with a mini series on a streaming network. Make it more adult like Titans and Doom Patrol.
They could do a psychic Superman story and could even tweak it so he isn't full out an evil dictator. Or do Calvin Ellis.
Though I will admit we are more likely to see the Harvey Dent Supes show up in an animated movie than anything else.

A wakandan king doesn't need to be black either, but there would be a fit thrown.
don't go down this road

Eh... It’s not similar as race and ethnicity play a large role in the character of Black Panther unlike with Superman. Admittedly, I’m no fan of race swapping a high profile and iconic character like Superman but there certainly is a large difference there.
This is where you're wrong, sport. T'Challa being a Black African is integral to the character's story. Superman's skin color isn't, he just has to be an alien that can pass for human and was raised by loving human parent who instilled a strong sense of right and wrong into his being.
Now if you wanted to pick another Black character where their skin color wasn't really important to the character and their story, sure. Or you can continue to gripe about the imagined affront to your personal delicate Whiteness, either will be fine with me.
Could have a queen who can't have kids find an abandoned white baby. He becomes king.
No reason it can't be done.

Nope wrong, don't die on this hill kid. White baby could embrace african culture. No reason it can't. Unless you're a racist.
