man utd in unworkable debt, two premier leagues and a champions league.

arsenal in good financial shape, havent won anything in years and are now worse off than last year instead of getting better.

it depends on how you look at it i guess.

Flamini must be some player. No-one has won any trophies yet, and Arsenal would have won more than one already.

There's nothing magnificent about going into £600 million of debt to win the league by a few points, and a CL based on Terry being a ****ing idiot. If Man Utd had to spend that sort of money to get such a fine advantage, why do people assume one player is going to turn everything around for Arsenal? Try your unworkable debt argument with Leeds United fans- and that was in a time of financial security.

You can't be held to ransom by a player just because he had one good season. It'd have huge implications for the whole squad, because Arsenal have a wage structure. Flamini clearly wanted to go to AC Milan in any case.

Makes you wonder why Wenger sold him; he'd be the identikit Arsenal player at the moment.

It was because he's not good enough to get near a big team, but I'm sure Wenger's happier with the £7 million sell-on fee. There's only one mediocre team that likes to waste money on 'big name' English players to appease The Sun, so it was inevitable where he'd go. Good old patriotic Spurs, doing all they can to help the national (B) team.

Yeah! Who's stupid now, huh?

Man city got an impressive 2:0 away win at Schalke 04 (Germany)last night. Although Schalke played like they couldn´t be bothered.

wage structure aside, all im saying is that i dont think they'd be in the position they're in now if they kept those players. don't you agree?

So what if they weren't in this position? It doesn't guarantee trophies, as VVD stated. Last season Arsenal did better, but didn't win anything. What was the answer then? Buy more players.

So, instead of buying more players to make themselves better, they sold some players and became worse.

Can you see the line of thought surrounding this whole 'buying players' thing?

I don't see how "Buying players" makes everything better.

He bought Nasri. Nasri was one of the best purchases he's ever done, and the thing is, nobody raved about it because nobody knew who Nasri was. If he'd bought Torres, someone overrated, but shitter, everyone would have gone mad.

We didn't beat Man Utd last season. We did this season, Nasri scored both.

Really? I was under the impression that everyone knew who Nasri is. I thought buying him for whatever-it-was (was it £9m with £3m add-ons or something?) was ridiculously cheap. As for Torres being shit and overrated... well, we all know about your problem with Liverpool. I don't think that really warranted an answer.

It's not Liverpool.

He's shit and overrated. He did nothing for Spain, his "prolific" season with Liverpool came with hat-tricks and goals against nobodies, mostly. If defended against properly, he's nothing. Waits on the shoulder of the last defender and hopes they're incompetent.

Then isn't it a good thing that there an awful lot of incompetent defenders in some of the best clubs in the World? You do remember that Torres scored against Inter Milan and Arsenal last year, right? Hardly teams full of nobodies...

He scored against Inter Milan post Materazzi red card (The only time Liverpool broke them down was when the got one of their defenders sent off), he scored against Arsenal because Senderos was having a very shit game, as he was prone to then.

For those two examples, there's more or less every game of Euro 2008 and a heap of games he has played in the Prem.

I brought Torres up because he's the guy a lot of stupid Arsenal fans are saying we should have instead of Adebayor, despite Adebayor scoring as many goals, better goals against better teams, in bigger games. There's this baffling concensus that Torres one of the best players in the world, it's odd.

It wasn't because of Liverpool that I brought him up. Though saying that, Benitez turned down Aguero, bought Torres and bought Keane.

I bet Atletico Madrid can't believe their luck.

Materazzi was sent off in the first leg of the Inter game. Torres scored in the 2nd. I'm pretty sure that the Arsenal goal was pretty awesome, even if Senderos was shit.

When has Adebayor scored in a really big game?

And I doubt Atleti fans are terribly happy- they love Torres, and I have my doubts about whether Aguero would really make it in England. Torres adapted quickly largely because he's physically able to stand up to defenders who try to kick him up in the air- Aguero isn't, he's tiny...

you know just as well as i do that if just a few decisions would have went their way they would have won the league and advanced to at least the semis in the cl.

i never said they'd win trophies, neither did i say they needed to buy players last year. i just said they wouldnt be in the position they're in now if they kept their team together.

Well then they were without Burdisso, who is better. My point was that it took red cards for Liverpool to score. It took a wastrel Ibrahimovic for Inter not to have creamed them.

We're not debating whether or not the goal was good, we're debating whether or not it was easier than it might have been.

Adebayor sealed the win against A.C. Milan in their home turf, he scored against Liverpool, he's scored crucial winning goals in crucial Premier League games.

He's better in the air, he's stronger.

So? Messi's tiny. Size doesn't mean anything if you're good.

Yes, although that's irrelevant.

By giving Flamini that wage, they then have to raise everyone when it comes to them wanting to leave.

Romario, Maradona, Eto'o, etc...Don't need to be tall to play, if ya squat and strong.

I agree that small players are just as good if not better than bigger ones, for the simple reason that they are used to using technical ability & well executed faints to get past players as apposed to brute force, from a younger age.

An interesting statistic would be to see how effective Ronaldo (the real one🙂) was before and after he gained weight, and he gained a lot of weight. I don´t mean the last World cup and when he was a bit of a fatso, but before after he had done body building, or steroids as some rumors will have it.

Was he more devastating or just as?

He's been more or less as good throughout, goalscoring ratio-wise, from what I remember of his record.

It always does seem more surprising when a bigger player has good skill. RvP and Zlatan are probably the best examples.
