Given that DOS Doomsday killed Superman, I'd say that fight was tougher.

Doomsday, easily.

Superman probably would have said something like "he's probably the single toughest opponent I've ever faced" if he hadn't died right there.

They had Superman to say that because they were giving respect to Thor in order to not displease his fans by having him lose to Superman. IMO, it should be clear that Superman had tougher fights than that (Doomsday anyone).

Superman from the era of JLA/Avengers was stronger than the Superman from DoS, imo.

That being said, as Thor didn't kill Kal, his fight with Doomsday was likely tougher. The fight between Thor/Superman wasn't overtly impressive for either character regardless.

To be fair when you have big fights like the one that happened in that comic its difficult to give any characters the breathing room they need.

IMO a "real" fight between Thor and Superman should devastate a solar system. stick out tongue

It also wasn't technically incorrect, either.

Thor and Superman were basically fighting like they do 80% of the time, give or take a little PIS (Thor could have at least blocked the HV.)

In one, Superman was killed and didn't show any superiority over his opponent.

In the other - immediately after he made Thor eat dirt and showed clear physical superiority - he was dog-piled by the rest of the Avengers including Thor peers like Hercules, savagely beating him, and still got up at the same time as Thor a few minutes later.

Tough decision.

Technically, only DD was killed, seeing Superman wasn't resurrected, but just in extended recovery.

He was dead, in the literal sense of the word. His father needed to bring back his soul.

DOS was obviously a much more intense fight. Both have had tougher fights against tougher opponents. It should be noted that Clark wasn't able to cut loose as easily during that time period however.

Still not sure why Busiek was shocked at the uproar the battle caused. What other outcome did he expect? I mean really. The biggest disappointment is that we'll never have a rematch that can give Thor the chance to even the score.

They should do a crossover just for Superman to beat him again, for the lulz.

Unless the Siegel's and their slimeball lawyer (Who will own an even bigger stake in Superman then the Siegel's or the Shuster's individual portions) sell/lease Superman to Marvel. big grin

I think he'd be mollified by the chance for a Magneto/Superman pairing.

Untrue but whatever. I'd say under Busiek, Clark should take about 6/10 from Thor. If he does think Thor has a noticeably power/versatility edge, he fights to often like a brick I'd wager and although he could hold his own, he just can't beat Superman head on when everything is on the line. Unfortunately, losing to Clark was probably the most impressive showing of power his Thor had.

My side kind of lucked out that we got such a fan of the old school status quo. Having Perez do the art didn't help any. Still, he took Clark to his limits while only fighting like a brick.
