I feel that WB finally stumbled on the right formula: Give ppl what they want. Don’t be artsy or pretentious, don’t be arrogant (and put your own original “spin” on it). The source material is solid, don’t be so arrogant as to think you (the director, the writer or the studio) can do better by rebuilding it in your image and just build on it and from it. Don’t overpoliticize it and just tell a story. And most of all: be fun.
If they keep this up, they might still save the DCEU just yet.
Yes I also think it is best for them to give a break to Batman and Superman for a few years, whilst they perfect their formula for solo movies for new characters.
Their downfall has been relying too heavily on massive named characters which will make money regardless of quality... Until they don't.

Great movie.
Definetly better than expected.
DC still has a long road to equal MCU though. But being fair, it's an improvement.

Watched the movie, gotta say not bat. A solid 7.5-8/10 for me.
The GOOD: fights/action scenes were solid, good new take on the usual epic army battle scene (would have been the best one had they slowed it down a bit to give time for the scenes to give the audience time to absorb the grandiose of the battles), giant monsters, decent (albeit overused CGI), great world building and it was pretty respectful of the source material (a bit too fanservice-y tho). Great costumes and Mera was hot.
The BAD: Cheesy lines, mediocre to bad acting, rushed thru a lot of scenes (like the epic army battle scene), plot was overused, cliche, predictable and had no depth and it was a little too fanservice-y.
Overall, the strengths more than compensated for its weaknesses. This movie did what it set out to do: be a fun, mindless action flick with gorgeous scenes and ppl battling it and giving everyone a feelgood ending. Essentially none of the usual Hollywood snootyness, snobiness and pretentiousness and all about giving the audience what they want.
7.5-8
Agree.

I give it a solid 9/10. Wan did a great job.

I felt it was a bit too long! A bit shorter would have made it better.

Length does not bother at all if the film is good.

Aquaman pulled in strong numbers from the Amazon Prime screenings beating out Jumanji which did a similar thing last year and that movie went on to gross over 400 million domestically.

I hear it's probably going to get the Oscar for special effects.
Lol its not even one of the initial 10 nominees. Beaten out by Solo and Ant-Man.
Infinity War has a legit shot due to Thanos.

Word is WB did not campaign hard for it anyway. Good news is the film is good and gives WB/DC a win.
They just need to keep it up.

It lost out to Ant-Man, Solo and JW2 (which had some horrific CGI moments). So I dont think WB would have had to campaign very hard.

Aquaman had better by far visuals than those films.

Newest #Aquaman stats from WB - $15.9M MON from 43 intl mkts raising cume to $284.1M. China #boxoffice total now a stunning $195.2M thru 11 days & set to break $200M mark in only 12 or 13 days. Will surpass $300M global by THU when it opens in the US market at the #1 spot.
