Well the Spartan philosophy held that there is no greater glory than to die fighting to protect their homeland.
So for Spartan Warriors, the meaning for that kind of death is that you've achieved a special level of glory.
Sadly we cannot choose how we die, but we can decide how we meet that end. I think that's what's important, if you die proud or without regret, or if you go out with a happy thought, not what death's meaning is.
