You guys hope Gorlim knows which way he is going. These Downs seems pretty featureless to you- rolling mound after rolling mound...
"A bit bleak," Gorlim says, "but we should only be here for a day or two... good exercise for the horses, what?"
"Quite so, quite so!" chimes in Annphor, in inevitable agreement.
A day in, you find a likely spot to ptich up camp for the night. It's a bit chilly to be in tents, for sure. That said, it seems the Elves in the group are feeling the cold more than the rest of you. For you men, it's just a bit nippy. Hobbits and Dwarves- what is everyone moaning about? But each of the Elves is feeling something very wrong.
Now then... hmm... with Fitch busy and Mah gone we seem a bit under-rangered here... who is going toi volunteer to scout around (with standard player paranoia) and spot something?
"Why don't you come with me and you can see with your own eyes the camp site is made by a LARGE group. Maybe it isn't your backyard yet. HOWEVER your king seeks to take this part of the land and adds it to his Kingdom then this will become your backyard. If I were you I'd rather have my new backyard clean of weed before I let my horses graze upon it"
"IF the King takes this land," says Gorlim, "we'll garrison it and the Orcs will be expelled. And you describe a sizable campsite- but not an army. It might even be two, three dozen. So what? We outnumber them still. We don't even know if they are still there. And surely with you and your mighty friends to protect us we have nothing to fear, hmm?
"Orcs are cowards. They won't attack a well-armed party like ours except with great numbers. If you are so concerned, feel free to scout ahead when we move tomorrow."
"This might surprise you as the concept might be foreign or barbaric to you but I am not thinking about myself. I am thinking about those people that live out here in Cardolan that do not have the privilledge of having an armed escort at their homes. And I would cut out the Sarcastic comments"
*I ride away a bit further get of Emoras and start writing my report for the day*
it goes like this:
"We have not yet reached Cardolan so this is but a pretext, tho it is of great importance. I have found the Arthedain lord Gorlim to have little knowledge of securying a hinterland. He also lacks moral compassion for the people of Cardolan and believe in the plans of his king.
Most of all he should learn to respect the opinion of his soon to be allies.
The reason I am stating this is because I found what I'd call a large campsite a half a mile south from our current position. Gorlim yesterday claimed this part of Cardolan was SAFE. if 36 orcs are running unchecked across it I would not call this land SAFE. Nor has he shown any interest in exploring it even a slightly bit further. Seeing as he is sure the orcs will not attack our group.
Mind you these are personal notes, other opinions might differe.
