USH'S LOTR RP Game part 2- The Fortress of Baranar

Aniica's elf ears perk. She hears, in the distance, thunder. She shook her head. It's just her imagination..... she looks around and finds her knife. She picks up a peice of wood and starts to carve it....

vardalain, fully refreshed now, walks in formation.

You guys hope Gorlim knows which way he is going. These Downs seems pretty featureless to you- rolling mound after rolling mound...

"A bit bleak," Gorlim says, "but we should only be here for a day or two... good exercise for the horses, what?"

"Quite so, quite so!" chimes in Annphor, in inevitable agreement.

A day in, you find a likely spot to ptich up camp for the night. It's a bit chilly to be in tents, for sure. That said, it seems the Elves in the group are feeling the cold more than the rest of you. For you men, it's just a bit nippy. Hobbits and Dwarves- what is everyone moaning about? But each of the Elves is feeling something very wrong.

Now then... hmm... with Fitch busy and Mah gone we seem a bit under-rangered here... who is going toi volunteer to scout around (with standard player paranoia) and spot something?

I think I'm the most adaquate rider so if it's on horse back I'm willing to go

I think that works out very well!

Scouting around- as is your instinct when the party makes camp- you discover, about half a mile to the east, a burnt out campfire and some evidence of usage that shows another party- a large one- camped here recently.

any idea what kind of party? men? orcs??? demihumans (for those who don't know I assume you know ush-demihumans are elves, dwarves and hobbits and everything else resembling a humanoid creature)

You are not an expert in these matters (this is where Rangers are handy)- but you find an arrowhead in the skeletal carcass of a wild creature eaten for food- and it is not a human arrow. Orcish, you think.

okie, do I hear or see any other riders?

No. You are not skilled enough to know how old this is, either.

okie

"C'mon Emoras"
I rush over back to our campsite
arriving there I say:"I found a used campsite of a large group of beings, probablyorcs half a mile east of here. These lands are Safe No more"

Gorlim rolls his eyes.

"What are Orcs doing here?" he asks. "I mean, what is here FOR them? Still, it can't be a very large party; nothing to worry about"

I ride my horse close to Gorlim: "Are you calling me a liar???"

"No of course I am not," says Gorlim, sighing. "I just don;t think it is anything to worry about."

"Your country is about to be overrun by thousands of orcs commanded by one of the most evil beings present in this world and you think a LARGE group of orcs in your so called SAFE backyard is NOTHING to worrie about?"

"Rememeber your place, Horseman!" says Gorlim, "lest I expel you and send you home in disgrace! You have no proof this is a large group, nor is this our own backyard!"

"Why don't you come with me and you can see with your own eyes the camp site is made by a LARGE group. Maybe it isn't your backyard yet. HOWEVER your king seeks to take this part of the land and adds it to his Kingdom then this will become your backyard. If I were you I'd rather have my new backyard clean of weed before I let my horses graze upon it"

"IF the King takes this land," says Gorlim, "we'll garrison it and the Orcs will be expelled. And you describe a sizable campsite- but not an army. It might even be two, three dozen. So what? We outnumber them still. We don't even know if they are still there. And surely with you and your mighty friends to protect us we have nothing to fear, hmm?

"Orcs are cowards. They won't attack a well-armed party like ours except with great numbers. If you are so concerned, feel free to scout ahead when we move tomorrow."

"This might surprise you as the concept might be foreign or barbaric to you but I am not thinking about myself. I am thinking about those people that live out here in Cardolan that do not have the privilledge of having an armed escort at their homes. And I would cut out the Sarcastic comments"

*I ride away a bit further get of Emoras and start writing my report for the day*

it goes like this:
"We have not yet reached Cardolan so this is but a pretext, tho it is of great importance. I have found the Arthedain lord Gorlim to have little knowledge of securying a hinterland. He also lacks moral compassion for the people of Cardolan and believe in the plans of his king.
Most of all he should learn to respect the opinion of his soon to be allies.
The reason I am stating this is because I found what I'd call a large campsite a half a mile south from our current position. Gorlim yesterday claimed this part of Cardolan was SAFE. if 36 orcs are running unchecked across it I would not call this land SAFE. Nor has he shown any interest in exploring it even a slightly bit further. Seeing as he is sure the orcs will not attack our group.
Mind you these are personal notes, other opinions might differe.

Fire- if I were you I would cut out the aggressive comments- if Gorlim expels you, you will be thrown out the game.

For the last time people- DO NOT PISS OFF THE LORDS!

Aiwenil clutched a hand to her still throbbing head.
"Sirs, please, there is nothing to be gained through pointless bickering."
