It's the food temptation scenario, like Eve tempting Adam to take a bite of the apple. Our heros take courtesy mini taste so as not to be discourteous and rude to the cook. There is no serious eating other than Jar Jar's busy tongue, and he's got a different kind of physical constitution at this time. 😛
