sixth stair - Why the sixth? And why did Harry even notice that it was the sixth stair? JKR could've easily written it like this: He was on his way upstairs when it happened... . So let's assume for a moment that JKR had the sixth book in mind...

steps melted together to make a long, smooth stone slide - The "steps melted together". H/Hr got together?

brief moment when Ron tried to keep running - a brief moment where Ron was hurt and jealous or tried to fight for Hr?

newly created slide - Newly created couple?

at Harry's feet - Ron was defeated by Harry in regard to Hermione's affection? It's just such an interesting image. Like two men fighting until one of 'em is on their knees and finally comes to rest at his rival's feet.

Maybe I'm reaching here, but it'd be so symbolic in terms of what's been happening so far. Ron desperately needs Hermione's attention ("If you want to worry about someone, Hermione, worry about ME!" - "You? Why should I be worried about you?"😉 . He gets "shot down" because Hermione's attention is and always will be with Harry.

Something tells me we're in for a big showdown in book 6. With the prophecy finally revealed and Harry grieving over Sirius, we can be fairly sure that Hermione will be focused on Harry more than ever.

But I have this feeling too that Ron will pursue his feelings for hemione but in the end they will decide to be just friends bec mione has already have feeling fo another guy. squeee!!

Two fourth-year girls came zooming gleefully down the stone slide. "Oooh, who tried to get upstairs?" they giggled happily, leaping to their feet and ogling Harry and Ron.

I love how the girls are ogling the two boys in the above quote. Harry and Ron are just so innocent still.

besides....there are quite a few clues about there relationship growing in other books....
trying to save both Ron and Hermione, even though Krum will save her....risked Ron's life!!!!!!!!!!

I love that quote. If that's not a clue to HHR I dont know what is. In Book six he should begin to see what a vitle role Hermione plays in his life, and how much he would miss her if anything happened to her. "What was there for awhile now" is the love and strong bond between them, that it is clear hermione recognizes, but harry has failed, up until this point, to really understand. I can't wait for book six 😱

i think im the only person who doesnt want hermione and harry together... i just think he should be with an unknown. i think harry as the main character with another main character like hermione would be too much. i think their relationship is too platonic- imo theyre not really that well suited.

the tension between hermione and ron tho seems to indicate something. i think ron feels more than he lets on. he was really jealous of krum. in my mind opposites attract i suppose- i just think theyd make a good couple.

I think that its clear that ron has a crush on hermione, the problem is that she shows no signs of reciprocating that. It is obvious to me that Hermione and Harry are perfect for eachother, that they need eachother. I think Hermione would be annoyed and frustrated by ron if they were together, he's a little too immature to be with someone like hermione. Luna on the other hand.... i like the ron and luna pairng. Afetr all, she does sing "weasly is our king" quite often in OOTP...

Harry Cares more then he's been letting on. It's my predeiction that in HBP he'll finally start to realize how much he cares, and how vital Hermione is in his life. We only have to wait 46 more days until we know!

Ok, I see everyone is more going towards H/Hr and the closes I see about Ron pearing up with some is with him and Luna. Well, wonderful, but I am going to have to say Ron and Luna.... disturbing mix. I am actually going towards Ron and Hermy. I'm not sure if I got this quote right from the book, but I believe Black says to Ron and Hermy "You two fight like Mr. and Mrs Weasly, which might foreshadow something, yes? Remember that quote.

Now, as for Harry, don't you dare think of him with Luna. I don't want to go over this story I said before, but what the hell. Image this, Harry and Luna out on a date. The waiter comes to take their order and Harry orders (so and so) and Luna says something weird. Looks like Luna had the menu upsidedown. I can hear Harry just going "Check please". But that is my opinion for those who go for H/L.

But, do you think I will leave Harry all by himself? NOPE! I think, and don't call me crazy on this, Harry and Ginny. I think I remember hearing something from someone a long time ago.... really long time ago that I can't remember where I heard it.... that Rowling was going to end something.... don't remember what it was ending.... with Harry holding a younger girl's hand. Only girl younger than Harry that Harry knows is Ginny (Excluding Hermy is she is younger than Harry.) But I think what I heard was a rumor. But also, wasn't there a connection in book two between those two? Ginna was always nervous of Harry when he came to Ron's house, and Ron did say "She was talking about you all summer", or something like that, to Harry.

I like your thoughts Nightcrawler341. And really, people who've been appearing on this thread make it seem that there are more people who think it's Harry and Hermione. but the poll is reading it as Ron and Hermione. Which Ron and Hermione, I find, make a lot more sense. And I do remember some mention of Ron and Hermione argue like Mr. and Mrs. Weasley somewhere in there. so yeah, I completely agree with you.
