Wow, I got a headache just reading this thread. That's some complicated stuff if you ask me. Good Luck...I remember when I got my first computer in 1991, I did something that caused the fonts to enlarge drastically and I cried because I couldn't change them back. Ever since then I refuse to go any where near the 'Control Panel' 🙁
OK, I spent Saturday evening posting nonquality stuff in the JCC, so have just turned on the old computer, and must move my good stuff over to this computer (all my fav links mostly).
I found 4 CDs from the original purchase from Computer City.
1. Microsoft Windows 95
2. Computer City Drivers CD
3. Word 97
4. Windows95 Starts Here. "To install Windows 95 starts here, updated edition and Windows 95 How and Why....
and I believe I have Home Esentials 98.
RC, Ush, guys, give me some guidance in a couple of hours, please
OK, here's a few things to get you started.

Find a fresh floppy disk.

Start up the PC as is and stick the Windows 95 disk into the CDROM drive.

Stick the Floppy in the floppy drive

From Windows click START -> Settings -> CONTROL PANEL

In the Control Panel double click the ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS option

There are three tabs at the top of the panel that opens, the third tab is called Start Up Disk

Click that tab and click the button that says CREATE DISK

Follow the onscreen instructions.

Once complete, remove the CD, shut down the PC fully and then reboot with the Floppydisk in the drive.

You should end up with a black DOS screen with A😬>. If not then skip the rest.

Reinsert the Windows CD ROM

At the A😬> prompt type the following without the quotes. "D:" Press return

Hopefully you should get a D😬>

If you do then type DIR, you should get a listing on the contents of the CDROM, also the CDROM should have some activity on it as it is read.

If this all works then you have a later version of Windows 95 that makes a Start Up Disk with CDROM drivers.
Assuming all that works then you should be safe enough to format and reinstall.
HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!
RCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC
I got down to your step 10. I got a blank A:>
I then changed to d:> drive and got "invalid drive specification". It didn't read my D drive. Of course there's nothing in it. but it should have just shown a D:>
I get a c:> prompt ok, but no D drive.
I put in my Win95 cd in drive d, closed the door, waited for the light to go out, typed in D:> and still got nothing.
While I'm waiting for you to show up, I'm gonna start moving all my fav sites to this computer. These are all my sw links to sw and GL stuff.
HELP, RCCCCCCCCCCCCCC
gahhhhhhhhhh, RCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC
So, I tried to log on from where I was. Went to C:>cd windows.
c:>\windows\win.
It defaulted to drive A. which bombed out cause I had released the floppy. stuck the floppy back in, hit retry.
Got this wonderful message. VFAT DEVICE INITIALIZATION FAILED.
A device or resource required by VFAT is not present or is unavailable. VFAT canno continue loading.
System halted.
*weeps uncontrollably; this monster is not cooperating*
I will just reboot with nothing in A drive, to get back into system to move fav sites to this computer by email.
Hope you come by soon.
