I decided to drop Christianity in a split second too, it's religion IMO it doesn't need to be right it needs to FEEL right and Christianity just didn't anymore after I finished the New Testament and a book about the Catholic Church through out the 16th century

I am orthodox christian...
greek orthodox I recon

FE> You say someone who wants to drop Christianity and go into Buddhism is not strong in his/her religion.
Would you say the same of someone dumping Buddhism and joining Christianity?

I'm not trying to insult nor to accuse your friends Fire. One of my bosses mother in law belives in Amida Buddha and prays to the deity. To say Buddhist's don't pray is a generalization. If you're speaking of the foundation of Buddhism are you speaking of Siddhartha Gautama? He also prayed along with his monastic friends The Sangha. Maybe not ALL Buddhisms prayed, but there is certainly some that do.

Agreed, as far as I know they do pray, and that remark from DARTH is making like no buddisms pray, mabye the one he knows about doesn't but they do pray.

Fire> You’re right. Prince Siddharta was born into Hinduism and lived in wealth and luxury for most of his life.
Then he encountered illness, old age and death (I think) and became a monk. Under some tree he attained enlightenment – that instead of being reborn endlessly (as you do in Hinduism) one should break the cycle of rebirth.
So Buddha is not a god. He’s a guide and a teacher. There ARE Buddhist temples, but people don’t pray as they pray to the God of Islam or Christianity, but asks for advice.
(Was in China a month ago - hence the reason I know)

Thx I knew I was right I don't know too much about Buddhism but I know more than the average belgian about it. Next year at uni I'm gonna take a minor in World Religions hope it will be interesting

That thing with JC and Siddhartha is pretty much the same beginning. They both drop their previous religion (JC-Judaism and Siddhartha-Hinduism) and began to have followers. In the end they both had followers.

Well there is a difference atleast between asking for advice (like those buddhists do) and asking for favours (like many chirstians do)

In theory the advice could also come from within (one of the ways I use meditation/which ppl could mistake for prayer)

Who do they ask they advice to
their inner self conscience

I was saying yes to Fire's question didn't read your post if you were talking to me lol

Thx Finti

and I think we should all stop generalizing, Some Buddhist factions Pray and some do not

True 🙂

Weird, I know a lot of christians, even a few priests and stuff but none of them believe the Bible exactly to the letter.

hmmm and then we have the Shinto religion influenced by both Buddhism and Confucianism

But the bible contradict itselfs on numerous occations

hehe true

that indeed it does

Praying is talking with Jesus, it's not suppose to be asking favors all the time, but agreed some people do that. Prayer is a way to develope a stronger relationship with our Father, God. Talking to him and getting to know him and know his ways. 🙂
