What get me is the Hypocracy being shown by people on both sides.
Bin Laden, a MULTI-millionaire, attempts to destroy the American Capitalist Democracy, whilst at the same time making substancial trading on the Futures Market in stocks of the airlines he intended to use to carry out the act. Knowing full well that the companies stocks would fall dramtically he, or someone acting on his behalf, made massive trades on the 6th and 10th of September.
If you look at the volumes for those days they stand out like a sore thumb as they are 10 times a normal day, with the extra centred around just a few key stocks.
On the American side, it was the CIA who basically put Bin Laden in a position to make bring his organisation together when the wanted him to do their dirty work against the Russian" threat.
Not trying to be judgemental, but if we're gonna go to war let's at least look at our selves a little first...
To say they agree is a bit of an over-simplification. If Russia REALLY agreed they would let people use the Central Asian states to station forces which would make any campaign into Afghanistan MUCH easier.
The only reason to kill Bin Laden is revenge. His death will have virtually no effect on his organisation. These people have a cause, and once we are steaming in with invasion forces they ALL have a cause, and it will be the Russian situation all over again.
Well, at least Pakistan has done something decisive, and it looks like the first shots might be fired along that border.
queeq, I note you doidn;t seem to appreciate my posts that werre actually agreeing with your poijt about this being a difficult war... never mind.
In any case- all previous experiences be damned, America can win this if it has the means, the support and the will. The means it always had, the will it just got. The support it HAS, but... it;'s such a fickle thing. A years time, many of those countries currently pledging support will just be 'sympathetic', and the fear of the US throwing its military might around will return. And the US could be in a very difficult position.
I remember Reagan saying yhat the US would never give in after the suicide bombings at the Marine Barracks during his Presidency; he said the US would never give in and that terrorists cannot hide. He fired a few missiles at Libya- almost certainly hitting no-one responsbile- and a month later the troops were pulled out.
These things are always more easily said than done.
To say they agree is a bit of an over-simplification
Finti you could say that about any war. The Gulf wasn't about freeing the people of Kuwait. Britain and America got involved because of oil. Everyone looks after there National interests but if it stops this kind of terrorism then who cares?
