Oh , they make a huge mistakes two launch a second attack. This increase the chance of beeing chaught. If chaught there are ways to make fundamentalists talk. Concentrate on their extreme fanatical religious belives, and you will find a way. Just study their religion and you will find their weakness.
You might, but that won't stop them from terrorist acts.
And Ush, wiping out terrorists is just as hard as killing guerilla's. The US failed beating guerilla's in Vietnam, Russia failed at that in Afghanistan and even though terrorists need places and materials to train with, they are very mobile. They don't need huge compounds and stuff, they work in secret. Heck, even in Israel there are secret area's in Palestinian villages where militant groups are trained. If they're caught, they move.
And one more thing... the Israel-US situation is not so different. 50 years ago the largest part of the world backed up Israel in their existense and after that in several wars started by surrounding countries that invaded them a couple of times. Most of the world was in favour of Israel then. It was in the eighties that the attitude started to change. If the US responds too aggressively, the world may turn (as you said) against them as well.
What saddens me is that when and IF the US plans a strike against Afghanistan is that it's unlikely they catch the Bin Laden group, but that the local population gets another beating. That'll add up to 30 years of war in a country that's down to its knees. And it's the normal people that suffer again. Just like they did in New York and Washington, so will they get it in Afghanistan.
you forget that the opposition in Afghanistan will back USA in any way to get rid of the taliban regime. Even if the terrorist are mobile there are few countries that would dare to hide them. The terrorist are backed up in a corner with not to many places to go.
I saw Italia will not participate in a military action.
Well, being as the UN Mutual Defense Clause basically says that an attack on one is an attack on all. This effectively does put all countries at war with the afgans if they are determined to be the culprits.
It's no good anyone stating otherwise, Lord Robinson has already publically stated that the War scenario DOES fit into the MDC agreement and all countries KNEW what they were signing up to when they signed it.
At the time, 1948 I think it was, in the aftermath of WWII I bet it seemed a great idea, now some countries appear to want to pull out.
Remember the MDC doesn't have to mean a country fights, it justs means that a country is obligated to support the efforts, be that via political routes, economic routes or by other means such as use of armed forces...
Iran is neither, KJ.
Funny thing about Iran is that we can see how opportunistic people get. Iran has always opposed the religion of the Taliban and now is a good time to choose the US's side. Too bad Russia is not willing to be a bit more supportive. Then again, they burned their fingers on Afghanistan before. I doubt they'd be willing to do that again.
