Maybe becuz its a pain in the ass to port a game on a weaker sytem.

Regardless, they'll do anything for more money obviously.

They must be saying that so that more people will buy the GC version then. Why wouldn't they like the idea of MORE MONEY? 🙄 RE4 on GC in the US is selling like absolute s***, announcing the port so soon was absolutely stupid on Capcom's part, and they better hope Outbreak:File #2 helps them for all the money they lost until next fall, they will be getting my , and for the guide, but that's it until the next RE game.

Where did you get this?

Because according to the NDP Groupd (sales tracking for videogames sales), Resident Evil 4 was the highest selling videogames in the US for Jan, and 8th in Feb. Its probalby in the top 10 for March also.
That sure sounds like its selling like shit in the US. Capcom probalbly wont lose a single dollar from RE4 because its probably selling well in Europe and Asia.
Capcom is not stupid for releasing news about the upcoming port of RE4. Why would they be stupid? Because who cares if people buy the PS2 version over the GC's version. They still get money no less. On the other hand, Nintendo is probably pissed off about the news of an upcoming port to PS2 because it stops people from buying the GC solely for that game.
In the end, Capcom is not losing money and that the GC is selling quite well.

It's interesting to see how sales for the latest title have gone across the two of three regions released so far. IGNCube, reported with this story a couple of days ago stating that Resident Evil 4 has sold approx. 319,000 units from Jan 11th to 31st - making it the biggest seller of the month. However on the other side of the world, sales of Biohazard 4 have not been so spectular with total numbers somewhere between 184 and 189,000 right up until Feb 13th, depending on which source you go by.
While various estimates we reported on over a year ago expected big sales for the title, and while US sales will likely push over 500,000 in the coming month, European sales will not make up the shortfall and it seems the PS2 annoucement may have caused more damage to the GameCube version than expected. How the sales will be for the PS2 version when it releases near the end of the year as currently planned is yet to be seen, but expectations are Japanese sales at least may actually be very high indeed.

See, European sales are the downfall, AND announcing the Ps2 port was a stupid move completely. Ps2 fanboys now think they've won because of the port, and anyone who owns a GC and Ps2, and hates GC, sure as hell won't buy it for GC. People are waiting for the Ps2 version since they are Sony-fan boys.

That is the US only, I knew the news report said something, but it isn't doing incredible now, since everyone who wants it for GC already owns it, since it's out in all countries now, and once again, it's selling like GARBAGE in Europe.

YES, Capcom IS stupid for announcing the port so early, had they kept it under wraps, the GameCube version would of sold alot more in the earlier quarters of 2005, and then if Capcom announced the port in late summer perhaps, then the damage wouldn't be so critical, and they would have even more sales between both copies for people who want to buy both versions just for the hell of it. This was Capcom's choice though, and they'll see when the sales numbers come in of course.

You call 500,000 copies sold in two markets for the first month its released a shortall?
Please tell me what over 500,000 copies sold means that its selling like shit?

Sure, if the news was let out later, it probably sell more GC copies. But, what does that mean to Capcom? Nothing. It doesnt matter what version people buy. If its PS2 or GC version, they will still make money.

I don't know why people argue about how well a game is selling. If its a good game great, and it is! Even better! There is no nead to mention if it sold well, the sales report will not affect the gameplay at all.

No, but it selling the least in Europe when they have the Limited Edition GameCube boxed with RE4, not too well, and the fact the japanese version is censored is quite interesting. I didn't neccesarily say it was selling like s**t, but A LOT of people are waiting for the Ps2 version now, and since the financial year ends after Quarter 4, Capcom would of been smart to keep the Playstation 2 port under wraps, because more people would of bought it for GameCube until at least Quarter 2 if they announced the port in the summer. It depends on how you look at it about sales, because if the financial year ends after each 4th Quarter of a year, than they would be smart to hold off any porting announcements, so as they can get the sales money in early, AND also start off the next financial year with a released port for another console.

Of course it means something to Capcom, because now their realizing how harsh announcing this port was for their financial 2nd & 3rd quarters, and as well as the weaknesses & advantages of the Playstation 2. Yes, of course they will be getting money for both versions, due to fanboy/girlism/one console better then the other, but regardless they still hurt their mid-year financials for the GameCube version.

No but, sales reports give an idea of where the fanbase is headed, and a lot of people who own 2 or all 3 consoles are going to split off to the console they favor, but rather if Capcom didn't annouce the port until later, people would of bought the GC version AND the Ps2 version because it's almost a give in Capcom will make the game longer, more areas, plot, etc to try to make us buy it for the Ps2 version as well.

Thats being assumed that they will add extra content.

It's almost a give in that they will to make up for the short-comings of the visuals, and since it's DVD-Rom, they can fit a ridiculous about of data on it, FFX/X-2, GTA: SA ring bells?

RE4 sold 1,000,000 copies combined in the US & Japan already, only 200,000 in Europe. Interesting...

I know how much a DVD holds, but your assuming they're going to create more content, which will cost them more money. Especially since RE4 has alot of content already, it doesnt seem logical. Also, its coming out pretty fast after the GC version.
It might have more minigames but they're not going to add any new sections to the singleplayer game. That would take too much time.

I don't see why they won't, since it would make some crazy players buy both versions. You can't actually think they can complete the port by December, you do realize that it's been being worked on since BEFORE it got released for GC. To compress the entrire game virually, and expand it on the DVD-Rom within 9-10 months, change the button exclusive parts, ie A+B, L+R, A button being action, etc, along with any other game takes time. I'm sure Capcom will be adding to the story, probably explain more on Ada's presence and such while they keep it all "under wraps" to try to be mysterious. I'm not saying it's confirmed, but it's usually a give-in with a port of this type of game.

Hey I was wondering...is there a chainsaw in RE4 becasue there is a chainsaw controller...

i have recently got this game, played it through a couple of times, and i can think of nothing wrong with it.... maybe the lack of melee weapons but apart from that it is pure brilliance

It is being delayed on release on the PS2 because of legal agreements between Capcom and Nintendo, they are planning no extra material for it

No, the chainsaw controller is a novelty item, dubbed after the chainsaws in the game. Leon doesn't get a chainsaw though if that's what your asking.

That was a typo, chances are I did most of these replies in the early morning when I'm tired as hell. I really should get an internet spell checker. 😂 It's only sold 200,000 copies through March in Europe when it came out. Combined in the US & Japan, already 1 million copies! 😱
