Matrix questions

It showed a part of the end to Smith. He saw a part of the end, but not him being destroyed.

Technically if you think about it, Neo has been dead since the first movie. Agent Smith killed him in the end (hotel/apartment building), fulfilling his programmed purpose. Even though Neo came back to life, and proved that he was the One, Smith had already killed him once, and was not programmed to continue the hunt in the event of him coming back to life. So if you think about it, Smith became a wandering program, similar to the Oracle, and no longer had the "Agent" title.

Although he had no obligation to, he continued to hunt Neo out of revenge and his desire to be free from the Matrix. However since he still had his super agent power, he used the agents that formerly under his command as pawn. He still gave them instructions to destroy Neo.

I haven't seen M3 yet, but I already pretty much know how it ends, and from what I have read, there are a few loopholes.

As far as the Smith/Neo cancellation theory goes, it does not work. I read two versions of that in earlier posts on this thread. Since the Oracle does say that Neo/Smith are opposites, aka the +1 -1 =0 theory, everyone is led to believe that they would cancel each other out. However, if this were true, then the movie's ending would not include either Smith or Neo...
If they were complete opposites, then Neo would be unable to save the matrix, zion, or the human race. Why? because his powers would be completely, 100% gone. Smith would be unable to destroy it because his powers are also completely gone. Smith would become a helpless wandering program while Neo would become "only human"...they might as well have been dead or deleted.
So if Neo survived the encounter, then he would have had to have greater powers than Smith. Since we are given the impression that the matrix is rebooted, and mankind still is in existance, then Neo had to have used his reboot codes. If he and Smith completely cancelled each other out, this would not be possible, because he would no longer have the codes or any memory of them.

Since there was a pact made with the machines, then the human race would not have been killed, since there would be no one to kill them.
Ergo, the theory of the +1 -1=0 theory with Smith and Neo would make the ending, as well as the entire movie impossible.

Curlup&Die> Agent Smith was not merely programmed to “KILL NEO/Thomas Anderson”. He was an agent, and same as all agents, hunts rebels and exiles. Smith did not become an exile until The One tried to delete him, and instead created a virus.

You can say that neo accidentally created an EGO in Smith. Or, as Smith already displayed emotions in M1 when he interrogated Morpheus, interfered with an already faulty agent-program and instead of deleting it caused it to gain new abilities.

Smith was not an OVER-agent in any way. He had the exact same purpose as the other agents. It was Smith’s ego that drove him to keep on hunting Neo. Smith was suddenly, in the deletion-process faced with no longer having A PURPOSE. So he created one for himself: Destroy Neo.
He had no other agents under his command, and most certainly didn’t when he became an exile himself.

Neo is indeed 1. Smith is –1. And they do cancel each other out. AT the end you see neither Smith nor Neo in the Matrix. I strongly suggest that you SEE Revolutions, as this is in complete accordance with the movie. In the cancellation Zion IS saved, as Neo makes a bargain with the Machine Mainframe to destroy the Smith-virus in return for peace.

Half wits bow down to the power of The Omega

Neo in effect is similar to an agent. If he is killed then the anomly will keep recuring in others like the ones before him

Agents a sentient programs. The anomaly arises due to the collective subconscious disbelief of the 1 % of the pods-humans who won’t or can’t accept the programming of the Matrix. If Neo dies, NEO is dead and the anomaly – NOT Neo – would arise again. But since those who wants out of the Matrix (the 1 %) are now to be freed, the anomaly will not occur again.

Just a Couple of Questions

I have a friend who thinks Neo is a program and I was wondering if someone could explain to me why Neo is/isn't a program? I also wonder what is the significance of Seraph? Finally, what is the significance of the rain?

Please don't flame me because these have been answered in the past. Thanks...

Well they all HAVE been answered, run a search, but in short...

1) Thomas Anderson was the closest thing to a program but he still wasn't a program, it was just his digital image that was false the mind was real. Neo was not a program, he had a connection to the source because he was the anomaly... the equation was within him.

2) Seraph... protects that which matters most? I dunno if he was a former ONE and some people think, but we know he may have worked for Merv as he is the 'Judas'. He is also cool.

3) The rain looks like the Matrix code.

neo is definitely not a program, yo see his human body in M1 when he is freed

Okay - back, running and stuck!

Omega>Smith became an exile because he was destroyed by Neo and, since he knew that it was against the 'rules' for him to be destroyed by a human, he wanted to rebel. Not because there were new versions of the Agents correct?

And I found out what movie is playing in the Oricle's room in M1. It's called "Night of the Lepers". (Big rabbits) Is there any purpose for this?

<Omega> What is the purpose of the white rabbit besides for Neo to follow it in M1? What is the purpose of the black cat rather than showing a change in the matrix? What is Seraph's purpose?

xeous> night of the lepers as in rabbits or lepers as in the people that are really diseased?

Menelaus> the white rabbit is an homage to Lewis Carroll, the author of Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass...The black cat is a refernce to many different religions...ancient egyptians believed cats to be gods, black cats have been regarded since the dark ages as being in the company of witches, and for a black cat to cross your path is considered 7 years bad luck...to have two of them is like, 49 or 70 years bad luck...it is assumed, since we don't know much about the first matrix, that Seraph was an Angel in the first Matrix. It is also accepted that Seraph used to work for Merv. and that, along the way, the Oracle saved him. This is why is protects the Oracle now, and why merv called him the prodigal son.

Sorry, it was "Night of the Lepus". I was talking about it in physics and our teacher decided to look it up...He's a really cool guy, goes off topic a ton but we learn so much in so many subjects!

Thank you JediHDM

But how can we say if Neo is really dead? All we see are the machines dragging him off, but they dont come right out and say 'Neo is dead' of course nor do they say 'Neo is still alive', so how can we say for sure

look at Neo, note how he has changed, as the barge floats away. Notice the pattern of the light, and think about what it looks like...

BTW, don't know if this is accurate or not, i just wanted to throw it out there...At the beginning of Revolutions, there is a symbol, looks like a bulls head...we were trying to figure out what it was. I don't know if we did or not, but it came to my attention that the new Windows OS is codenamed 'Longhorn'...found that funny...carry on.

We talked about it on it's opening day if I remembered right...I think we decided that it was their tribute to the Chicago Bulls...

i never accepted that, though...it would definitely be out of place for a tribute to the Chicago Bulls to be in the Matrix movies...
