Tool aren't on there. That's hardly reason to claim they have a mainstream selection considering almost every other band in existance is on there.

Read the bit about my mail not always making it to my home (which you know about already), which makes me hesitant to buy online 😛

If things don't arrive, they send it again or you get a refund. If they send it again and it still doesn't arrive, you get completely refunded. You don't have to go anywhere or do anything.

I used to be able to hear most everything decent on the radio, but the only good radio station in Chicago has vanished. Sucks, especially as you could purchase singles through their site for about $.75. I really do try and avoid downloading. I don't like it. You know very well I don't, and that I better than most understand how it's stealing. If I can find it on myspace or elsewhere for a listen, then I'll check there first. Or if I can, listen to the CD at the store. I just like to know if I'll like something before I get it.

It's not the whole "trying" it part that I essentially have a problem with. It's the illegal downloading. I don't AGREE with trying it first because I personally choose to wait and I think that's the respectful thing to do. If you choose to hear things before hand through official and legal means, whilst I don't like that, it's not illegal and you will buy it if you like it. It's the illegal downloading of music that I don't like. It's wrong.

If you MUST try before you by, do so from a reputable source.

Though I have to say what sucks worse that getting a CD you don't like, is liking a CD when you buy it and then getting sick of it later. Bleh, I hate that 😬 in those cases I usually try and find a friend who'd like it, because I hate throwing away something that I paid money for.

You give away CD's that you no longer like? Why? I find that seriously puzzling. You're not gaining anything by getting rid of it.

How can you say "there's no excuse" when I just stated two reasons for my thinking? "The artist is more important" is a massively subjective statement. I try to support both the artist and local business, but when it comes down to it, the guy who owns my local record shop needs my money more than any multi-millionaire musician.

So buy the CD there then. Buy the single there. Where's the problem?

Why do you assume you have the right to listen to the artists music without paying for it? Go on. I'm seriously curious. If the artist is working to produce something you wish to listen to, you owe it to them to pay for it. Yes, owe. Because they are giving you something and you're not giving back.

I have no idea where this "It is lack of effort, too. Because you can easily get the CD's you want, you just don't want to." came from, since I actually said that I never download entire albums.

You choose not to buy CDs from certain stores just because you hold a grudge. As long as you're acquiring the music, why does it matter? It seems to me like you're confusing yourself by using music to support little stores, when you should be just supporting the artist making the music. Because without them, your local guy doesn't have a store.

As I said, I don't know of any stores here that will give full refunds/trades on opened music. Maybe Wal Mart or someplace, but I absolutely refuse to contribute to those places. I simply can't afford to be spending the amount of money a CD is worth every time I sort of want an album.

Then don't get the album if you aren't willing to pay for it. Simple as that really.

iTunes does not carry Tool, Metallica, The Beatles, or Led Zepplin. Just to give you an idea of some of the major artists whose labels won't let Apple have their music.

They have nearly everyone else. More over, you should have Tool albums anyway. We're talking about getting into new artists, which you can do so for extremely cheaply on iTunes. Not if they carry stuff that you already own.

I've proven that they carry more than enough to compensate.

As I have said, I have never "not bought" an album. The only reasons I download music are a) to get some feel of a new artist (not analyze them thoroughly as you seem to think I implied) b) to get ahold of a song not availible anywhere else, or c) to get ahold of a song from an album that I don't want to waste fifteen bucks on.

Then spend the 99 cents to get the song off that album. Simple.

If it's some ultra rare B-side that you can only get through spending ridiculous amounts of money on the limited single, then fair enough. These are all more often than not available through official means. All the Muse B-Sides are. Porcupine Tree B-sides etc.

I do buy off iTunes as well, but iTunes often either does not have certain music, or only has highly edited versions of certain music.

They have more or less every kind of music there is. They don't have every band there is but they have the biggest collection of artists than anywhere else. So these claims are bs.

What I meant by saying it does little harm to steal one or two songs is that some of these artists are paid millions upon millions of dollars per year. I am more hesitant to download music by local or lesser-known acts, but I sincerely doubt that James Hetfield's already lavish lifestyle actually suffers any when somebody doesn't buy his music.

It's not about "Oh, they don't care because they're already rich." That's exactly what's wrong with people. It's the principle of the matter.

Bill Bowerman is a multi-billionaire owner of Nike. Does that give me the right to steal shoes? No it does not. The fact of the matter is, people put work into these albums and you are stealing it at the touch of a button. It's not about filling their accounts, it's about respect. You owe it to these people. If you have ever enjoyed their music in personal use, you owe them your money.

"In short, I know of no record shops that give full refunds on listened-to music, and I don't have enough money to be throwing it around right and left at anything I might like.

Then don't consider yourself in a position to listen to it if you're gonna illegally download.

I'd rather give it to someone else who'd enjoy it so my money didn't go TOTALLY to waste, as it would if I chucked it.

My friends and I also tend to trade off CDs every once in a while since we all have slightly different tastes in music.

But you had enjoyed it previously. So it didn't go to waste anyway...

Well, if I'M not going to listen to it anymore, why not let someone else who will have it? I've wound up with a good number of CDs this way, between my family and friends not liking something anymore and wanting to get rid of it, and vice-versa.

It's not ACTUALLY mine. It's a friend's, mine is ordered.

It's excellent obviously. It's different to Mezmerize, more than I thought it would be. I can't really make an actual judgement till I get it and listen to it a lot more. On first listen it's excellent and they usually get better with time.

-AC

Whats this AC? You listened to it before the release date? BLASPHEMY!

CDs get released in the UK the day before in the US 😛

No fair. 🙁

Ask AC how long it takes them to get most movies 😛

We haven't even got The Exorcism of Emily Rose yet.

-AC

Meh, you're not missing much.

You guys already got The Descent released, I've been horny for that film ever since I heard about it.

Hardly a tragedy.

Until recently you previewed almost everything that was coming out, I recall.

I once downloaded the whole Hail to the Thief album when the unmixed version was leaked onto the net. This was so I could hear what it was like at that stage- a curiosity type thing.

I did buy the album on release date still, though.

I was just making a point about long release dates your repro-mug.

The worse being Hellboy which we got 5 months later.

Picked up my copy of Hypnotize today. I'm on my 3rd listen right now (although I have been listening to it the last week without the CD).

same here im listening to it fully for the first time

Really good album. Personal fav on first listen was Stealing Society, while She's like Heroin was the only song I didn't like.

I think my least fav is Dreaming. The slow part is f*cking great but the fast part is just mediocre. Definitely different though which I respect.

My 2 favs have been narrowed down to Vicinity of Obscenity and Stealing Society. However, Lonely Day is growing even more on me.

great cd my favorite include hypnotize soldiers side vicinity of obscenity and lonely day and the beginning of dreaming is good

i like toxicity, chop suey, hypnotize and psycho
