Punk is cool

basically grunge is a cleaned up version of pet rock. a slow sludgy offshoot of punk espoused by flipper, negative trend, and the frantic animals. It became grunge when the melvins combined flipper with sabbath and started playing detuned power chords instead of just feeding back and warbling aimlessly around some basic barr. so by that little root, nirvana is punk. although, if you listen to some of their weirder unreleased stuff, they do tend to wander into that weird little universe inhabited by primus, frank zappa, SWANS, and sonic youth.
they all have punk roots too: Dave was in a DC hardcore band called Scream. Krist was in the Jello Biafra fronted No WTO Combo, Pat Smear was in the Germs.

is that enough? if your still gonna be stubborn and say that all punk is "hardcore" and all songs that are punk sound like the circle jerks or minor threat, here's a list of songs that could be considered "hardcore":
originals: (new wave) Polly, Territorial Pissings, Downer, Curmudgeon, Oh, The guilt
covers: D7 (wipers), Return of the Rat (wipers), Yes, she is my skinhead girl (stooges), molly's lips (vaselines), Son of a gun (vaselines), Sacrifice (flipper), sex bomb (flipper), the way of the world (flipper)

But what the Seattle scene was playing was punk.. but it was america media who coined the term grunge.

And what the hell is pet rock?

Cobain has always said his music was punk.

that's interesting... I never thought of them as grunge, but I wouldn't have called them punk either...

Then what would you call them?
People all over the world called them the kings of grunge... because they become the first popular band from Seattle scene.

i already explained it, pet rock is a term coined by bruce loose to describe the sound of flipper and their peers, slow, sloppy, slugdy rock with no musical talent involved at all.

er whats this got to do with punk?

'They are punk rock, we are punk' Johnny Rotten.

Hippies and ounks aren't really different because theirs no such thing as either... it's I don't give a shit... though early on "Punks" hated hippies... Nirvanas punk in my book... he came out with something that sounded different... but the soul is the same... more "emo"... but emo really isn't... it's good music... punk is the easiest way to explain what kind of music I like because that's the word that people associate the music I mostly like with, I dres how I wan't... I don't need to shop a t ****in hot topic... though i'm morally against large scale "pop" stores such as Abercrombie and finch... why be "punk"...have a reason... you don't need to be "punk" justt do what you want... and if it's how you are... if your reason is you don't give a ****... why spend 4 hours on a ****ing mo- hawk... though it does look hot.... adios... the lecture is done for today... I'm done

Thats what I hate.
I dont have a mohawk, i wear jeans, i wear khakis and sometimes golf shirts... then people who have mohawks start yelling at me at concerts saying Im not punk.

**** that. I am more "PUNK" for wearing what i like and not dressing as the typical punk. People who wear or think that having a mohawk, leather, piercings and all that crap is punk...then they are just being the norm themselves and not doing anything different. Just being a typical punk.

samas, you wuold love a dead kennedys song called "chickenshit conformist", I think that song was the sole reason jello got his knees broken by punk zealots in 94 (for "selling out"😉. to make matters even more sickening, that pathetic televanelist zine of the punk world, maximumrocknroll ran a huge article debating on wether jello deserved it. Whether it's mohawks telling you your not punk for not coloring your hair, or a straight-edge fanatic beating your up for eating meat, or a roomfull of drunk morons telling you your "not punk" cause you don't sound like the circle jerks or minor threat, that's what's killing punk rock. punk was better when it had no definable sound and when zealots like the anti-nowhere league and even johnny rotton where simultaneously admired and berated by most people in the punk scene. What made the scene great in the 80's was that for the most part, there was only one minor theat and one circle jerks, not 4000. bands who made it were for the most part original and those who broke up and failed were copycats.
People who try to make you conform are just jocks in the wrong place. and i don't mean jocks as any stereotypical derision of people who are into sports, myself coming from a high school where you were more likely to be beaten up by the theater people and the band geeks while being relatively ignored or befriended by jocks.

Well, every clique has its wrong doing. Every clique dont accept unless a certian criteria. Punk, art students, media students, jocks, musicians...they all are friends because of something. Jocks get a bad name because of movies and tv shows, but hey, i used to play sports and most of the jocks are preety nice and fun to hang out with. Punks are the same way.. but they're is no different between a punk and a jock, one likes sports and the other likes to hate everything....( this is purely stereotypical, but true)

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh..................I"m against "polo" shirts and big named kacki's.............. I think sports are brutal and horrific... I believe there ios an aspect of beuty in them... but sometimes people take them as a way to take out there anger on another... what's the difference between them and the Gladitorial Games? Big named stores and brands try to make people go... that's cool... i'll be skinny if I wear that... boys will like me if... girls will like me if.;. he must be a nice boy because he wheres nice expensive cloase... It's horrid... I have more... but I'm tired now... so adios

That's how they market... The stores show a bunch of half naked people with great bodies, that have a strand of clothing made by the manufacturer... It's MAnipulative and wrong... and if you believe the government is wrong... than were do you think they get their ideas...who supports the enterprises... what is capitalism... a joke... why try and kill the cockroach when you know that there are 450 ****ing eggs in the wall... Think... if you know what your doing than people can't not take you seriuosly... it's when people yelll "that sucks" that pisses myself an most other off... donb't say something ifg you don't know what your talking about... take astand...know what your taking a stand on... though sometimes I do do that... but **** it... today...I'm hypocrit marc........Adios.

I was right! 😱 HELL YEAH!

Punk is what you think, not what you want........................................it's from the heart not the mind

If I jacked off, and I thought the sound of the lotion sounded like pounik... it would be to me.... to me god damn it... to me... not nirvana... not Iggy... not the cassultis... not even god damned ****ing flipper.... to be *****... to me

I had a bad mother****ing emotional day... **** it..... "Toast", to bad mother ****ing fuker of a **** day, Happy ****ing "Hanauka toast"

Yeah I get what you're saying Think. A lot of people at my school assume that I'm a conservative tightwad when they first see me because of the way I dress. I don't wear a bunch of fancy crap or anything, but I don't wear all the crap that you see people on TV and such wearing either. I wear jeans and a t-shirt almost every day. I've had the same shoes for about four years now. So I don't know where they get the idea that I'm a conservative, I guess because I don't submit to all the Gap/Old Navy/Abercrombie crap that makes me uncool and uncool=not liberal in their book.

That was rather unrelated to the punk topic, I know, but I guess what I'm getting at is that it pisses me off when people try to fit everybody into a group.

I honestly dont listen to punk and I am not going to pretend like I do(even though I so like the song submission by the sex pistols)....but this girl in my ap euro class, is very into it, and she told me that these new bads all suck that real punk existed like in 77'.."street punk" she likes bands like, the addicts, the clash....and thats all i could remember....but she made me realize that there are alot of posers in our school, just because they like avril and green day doesnt mean their punk....so yeah....i dunno....its quite sad.....posers...

by the way dr abercrombie is not crap.....old navy is......and gab could be.....but not af!

Poser's are the one's who like punk after it became popular. I like Clash, i enjoy sex pistols... but it aint my favourite band. Green Day is actually pretty good...Avril though suck ass.

And speaking Old Navy...ummm i love it because i can get a pair of jeans that fit me that cost 16 bucks. Thats why i like it.

yeah green day is good but a lot of ppl dont consider them "genuine" punk...I dunno.

the think i like about old navy is that you can get flip flops for 2 bucks.
