Vader's death: the mystery.

I think that using the abbreviation "meph" should also be banned. It sounds like somehting else and makes me laugh

I don't think he'll ever disolve it. but just out of curiosity I would like to know which ones best represent his vision to him, in his own words. And I don't think they totally hate EU. But even if they do, there are other people in here who feel the same way who love EU, but who also understand the basic debate process and standards.

Let's put it this way, you could basically call EU "Legends of Star Wars". They're cool, but they're not completely factual since we don't know what Lucas likes and what he doesn't. I for one am not going to argue specifically what should be in and what shouldn't be because I could stand up for something Lucas finds abismal. It's his baby.

well the EU books I read up until shield of lies were all, in my mind, piss poor stories so I cant stand the Eu I have read

why don't we just bring every EU source to a vote. cannon or not?

mephisto> Just because Lucas created the star wars universe doesent mean that he should automaticaly be the only writer in it. You refer to him as if he were a god. He's the master of the franchise not the god. So because Lucas might not like what is in EU, it is a legend inside the star wars universe and doesent exist as real fact. Well in that case he should not have licensed the books, comics and video games that make EU or if he did, he should've monitored it personaly.

EU has expanded the star wars universe in a far greater way than Lucas could ever do by himself since he only does films. All the backgrounds, stories, technology, weapons, ships that the EU has created could never have been acheived by Lucas himself. And these things are what most sci-fi fans including star wars fans love. Lucas needed many people to do all those background stories and everything mentioned in the previous sentence who are all part of EU. How do you know that the tie fighter uses solar energy and stands for Twin Ion Engine or what the emperor's name is which has been used in Lucas's Canon prequel movies mind you.

I have nothing against lucas, after all if it wasnt for him there would never have been a star wars universe to expand on, but since thee prequels everything has been messed up and the EU/Canon debate wasnt needed since everything sticked together.

why should we need to know what TIE fighter stands for, EU is for those who wants more info. EU isnt needed and never was needed for the SW saga it is just extra material for devoted fans.

i never said he should be the only writer. and yes, sorry, but he is god of his own little universe because he created it. you speak as if you should own a piece of it as if it were owed to you. i say he needs to officially approve stories to make them canon. which, at the moment, he doesn't have time to do. i love a lot of the EU. I have tons of it. They are great stories, but Lucas can drop a whole story with one simple plot twist in the films. Thus making whatever we'd heard in EU "legend" like Boba's background that just got tossed. And yeah, I'm not pleased when that happens, but its his story not mine. And not anyone elses. Like Finiti said, for those of us who want more, who want to know the exact measurements of a TIE fighter its there in the EU. Probably why he lets it get made. So fans quit asking him stupid questions at Sci-fi Cons like, "In frame 247 of real 8 luke had a grey stain on his shirt, in frame 251 it is gone. What does that mean?" now we have EU to explain every crack in every wall, every dent in every helmet, and every crystal in every lightsaber.

elegant reply meph

Meph, I think you're confusing us with the Trekkies. Most SW geeks I know understand filmmaking techniques, and therefore realize that when, for example, Boba's antenae switches sides it's just because the original shot had him looking in the wrong direction.

oh please. didn't you just hear the debate about analyzing a couple frames of Vader being electrocuted and how it will somehow give us insight into the extent of his injuries after his duel with Kenobi? Don't hand me that crap. We all do it from time to time. That's what happens when you're really into something and have been so for 20 some odd years. You kinda run outta new crap to say. I'm making the point that it would be funny if that's secretly why he lets it go on unchecked. So he doesn't have to spend his every waking moment dealing with it.
And you know there are fans like that out there. the only reason we get to mock the trekkies is because they have MORE of them. But both sides have overobsessed fans. You can sit on here for a couple days, s#!+...a couple hours, and figure that out.

Eh. Possibly true. What would be amusing is to ask GL for some of the really really stupid questions he's gotten over the years.

i would love to hear that! I'll bet he gets 100's of letters a day about stupid crap.

EU must take some of the blame for all the stupid questions

guys, this is not the EU Crap section, keep it on EpIV-VI!

any thing else about Vader and his death

It was probably a combination of the force lightning and the radiation (or whatever) that came up from the shaft. By the way, what difference does it make what the EU says about it? What difference does it make what the EU says about anything? As I recall the origin of Boba Fett was explored quite a bit in the EU. We all saw how much of that was true, didn't we?

that wasn't radiation, it was the emperor dying while spraying energy all over the place. That was just a very Lucas/Speilburg light show so you KNOW Palpy's dead.

And Finiti- no.
I don't see why there was even discussion on this. He got hit by lighting, shorted out his life support, and he dies. Why was that so hard?
