She tried to think back to the camp, but all that came to mind were images from when she was beated. "No, sorry." She looked down, and thought for a moment. She then slowly looked back up at him. "Look John, I just wanted you to know that I appreciate everything you've done for me. If it wasn't for you, I could have been caught again and in that camp until I die."
The laboratory lights flickered above Shadow as it shifted from side to side, revealing more of the laboratory's dilapidated state. Broken green linoleum tiles, water running from the open pipes, a few rats mingling beneath the broken table, a few tools on the floor, and soaked paper everywhere. Right beside him, on another table was Karen still a bit unconcious.
A shadow stood by the door, it slowly walked towards the two, dragging a few links of chain behind it, and it the light it revealed itself. The being known as NYM 0, or Ghost as many of the camp children knew him by.
His eyes were glowing pale as it wandered over the two, and stopped as it directly looked at him...
Then a voice, not of a man, but of a girl, a teenager's began to move through Shadow's head, "Do not be afraid... he is just curious... just a couple of hours ago, he never knew anyone but the captor who had tortured and shackled him beneath camp grounds."
The voice spoke once more in it usual calm manner, "You are with friends... I am Sarissa, a telepath, and the one before you is who we call Ghost."
Ghost slowly moved back as he watched Shadow run over to Karen, watching his every movement, sound, and the way his face changed. He was trying to understand the world. He was trying to understand what it is being human.
Standing silently in the shadows, his nickname was beginning to fit more, like a chained mummy he did seem like a ghost. His pale white eyes glowing for a few seconds only to fade away in his mask.
"Both of you will be okay... now are you hungry?", Sarissa asked with a concerned tone, "Exit through the door from where Ghost walked through to your right will be another door, it opens to the dining room, join us."
