Did they have spandex at that time? Unless SCIII takes place after the 1950s, I don't think so. So yes, Taki's clothing is unrealistic.
Maxi, considering his personality, is probably wearing silk, which, oh, they did have! And highly decorated embroidery, too, just like his flamboyant choice of clothing. So I would not rule Maxi's vest out as unrealistic.

Certainly seems more likely to me than a woman wearing material that simply didn't exist. Wax existed, so what's to stop him from waxing his hair? Leather working existed, if he can pay for/steal them, why shouldn't he have nice boots?
